Toyota already sells this car, it is called the Scion FRS and you know, when you lose focus on fuel economy, does not get 50 MPG.

The Prius is currently offered in three sizes that are relatively similar to each other. I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota takes these in different directions. Maybe the C becomes a sport coupe, the V becomes a touring car (think NS4), and the regular Prius raises the millage bar.

Totally agree. The only real coupe is one without a useless back seat.

I'm trying to follow the thread but don't fully get it? You're saying that the Gen IV won't come out until 2016 now? It's summer 2015 isn't it...when it'll come out? Or fall the latest? No?

Usually the case with Toyota. Should be fall when the '16 comes out, and should be Gen IV.

Should see Gen IV at the Detroit show.

Yes, it's typical for a manufacturer to reveal a car and then it goes on sale for the next model year. Toyota has a record of keeping to a 6-year model lifespan (2004 GenII, 2010 GenIII, 2016 GenIV) so we are expecting to see the Model Year 2016 GenIV at a 2015 car show.

Detroit? I doubt it. Toyota has publicly announced a six-month delay with the Prius. I think Detroit is way too early in the year. If they do, it'll be a mock-up prop and not an actual car. Just my opinion; no actual Toyota data to back this up.

Ask him how he knows. If he can't cite an official Toyota release then he's just guessing like the rest of us.

Personally, I see the 2-door sporty hybrid as Toyota's next progression. The form factors so far are the four-seater liftback, the cargo-hauling v, and the small c. These three directly compete against sedans, wagons, and compacts. It shouldn't be too terribly hard to streamline the body a little to maintain the identifiable Prius look while getting sleeker and going head-to-head with the CRZ. Toyota's been VERY quiet about the next gen Prius. I have to wonder if it's more than just a generational makeover. Perhaps there's more. Perhaps they reveal the next-gen liftback at one car show and then up the ante by revealing the Prius s at a different car show. There have been rumors for quite a while of the Prius brand becoming a sub-brand. It would make sense to broaden the portfolio before spinning it off.

I'm interested to see how much they can reduce the weight of the hybrid system, then put some of that weight savings into comfort and handling. I hope Prius can become more 'planted' on highway. It's a wee bit flighty.

I'm more interested to see the next gen hybrid system and how that may be implemented in new Camry in 2 or 3 years. This will likely be my last Prius. Too tall for it.
