Advice on storing the car outside for a long time

We were in Honolulu a few years back, driving a rental around the east end of Waikiki beach, around where there's some oceanside park, and there's nearby zoo I believe. Pulled into a side street, maybe a block's walk from the beach: no meters, no parking restrictions, spaces readily available.

Coming from Canada, this was unbelievable, a very pleasant suprise. In the past 20~30 years the attitudes here around parking have got inexorably more larcenous. There's some pushback: in one region of Greater Vancouver, Delta I believe: their mayor has decreed free parking at hospitals. She came across on TV as very matter-of-fact on the subject, we could use more like her. Stem the tide, lol.

 

I saw that. A great Mayor. Very tough and she doesn't care what they think.
