Strange noise while braking and after car turned off

    Hi Guys,

    I have a 2010 Prius which I have had for a couple years. I get this strange noise from time to time that happens while braking. It starts, it will do it for a while, and then go away. When it's doing it, It will also happen after I turn my car off when the engine does it's shutdown phase. Occasionally, when my car is not moving and the engine is off, if I push my brakes it will do it too.

    The noise comes from the driver side, by the firewall. the noise is a loud rachety sound, and it does not sound healthy or normal. I took my car to the Toyota dealership 3 different times explaining what was going on, but since it is random in when it happens, they have always told me everything looks normal. (of course I am out of my 1 year warranty too I got when I purchased it used.)

    Is this noise something I should be worried about? Anyone have a clue what it is? Last thing I want to do is burn out some component of my car when I can save it now.

    This sounds like the brake accumulator pump noise. This is not random, should be able to hear it every 2 or 3 times you step on the brake. Try it while it's ready mode, it should be the same sound

    My PiP 'breaks wind' just like that some minutes after turning off and sometimes whilst stamping on the brakes.

    Normal. School-boy funny in a public car park.

    Man it's hard to believe that would be a normal noise, it sounds very rough, and it never did it for the longest time. I guess I will live with it, and hopefully my brake system isn't tearing itself apart.

    The main noise sounds like brake accumulator, what you hear most every time you open the driver's door after the car's sat for a while. The noise at the 9 second mark I don't know, does sound weird, haven't heard that.
