Who? Those of us on the forum represent at the very most just 4% of the entire Prius population in the United States. We all share a bias of being outspoken too, since we are online participants, which is not an ordinary trait. Try getting feedback from an ordinary consumer who simply just went to a dealer and purchased a Prius after having a pleasing test-drive experience. You'll find they have little in common with us here.

Also, who's giving the finger (which I assume you mean figuratively). The many offline people I get feedback from about Prius simply aren't interested, they're indifferent toward owners. With so many more hybrids available and plug-in vehicles starting to get attention, what image do you think still exists?

The new advertisement campaign continues with the effort to point out the variety of choices available, going out of its way to distance itself from the promotion of overkill features of the past. Remember that nonsense? Watching commercials of cars & trucks doing things you would never, ever dream of doing with your own vehicle was pointless. Yet, people came to expect that anyway... and ultimately would succumb to the hype.

I'm glad Toyota is adhering to principle by not giving in to the pressure to push what consumers don't actually need. What do you think they should do instead?

i think a little humor, and a lot of education/information are the best commercials.admittedly, advertising is a difficult world. they charge a ton of money, but 99% of the ideas are pretty weak. a la most Super Bowl commercials. sometimes i watch a commercial and thing, 'was that made by a group of junior high school students?o_O

they're not interested out here on the west coast either ..... they don't have the time to roll down the window to flip the finger at Prius drivers. That's way too inefficient ... they may not get their window down fast enough - so the displeasure is expressed thru the written word.

If I say what doesn't work for me in that commercial, I'm giving feedback. I don't speak for everyone, but I have a feel for what people want, based on all the time I've spent reading the posts in this forum.

It's a figurative finger I suppose, but there are a lot of Prius-haters out there.

A few dozen people does not represent use of "a lot" and it certainly doesn't support "often".

Notice the hundreds of other drivers you encounter on the road every day who couldn't care less?

Sure, I've gotten the finger a couple of times, once in texas once in mississippi, I am sure only because of the car I was driving (I don't drive slow in the left lane etc) I never got the finger in a previous car.

That prius kingdom stuff is truely bad. I think only toyota has the figures, but I doubt that has helped sell the car. It has helped form attitudes about people that drive the car. Perhaps these attitudes are positive in California where toyota headquarters have been, but quite negative in other parts of the country. I do think a better ad campaign could sell more prii, but perhaps no advertising might have been better than this one or the nice person face commercial.

I think even many toyota dealers don't understand hybrids. One highlighting engine off air conditioning in a traffic jam, and off the line (0-30) acceleration might be good for the liftback, show someone throwing a bicycle in the hatch without taking off a wheel. For the v, I doubt many more can be sold from an idependant advertisement. The prius c though most people don't seem to understand features versus cost trade offs, compare it to a fit and a fiesta.

I've hear of this same hostility on the Porsche forums yet I've never experienced it unless I've done something to deserve it in the other driver's eyes.

I'm not biting. Over-generalizations like that aren't constructive.

I asked the Volt enthusiasts many, many times how GM was going make Volt appeal to the Malibu, Impala, and Cruze audience.

Well, there is some of that. There are also some people that need the capabilities of a pickup truck.

I suspect the target market that is achievable is the other cars in the top 10.

The 5 seat capacity, even though it's actually 4 1/2, is enough to persuade me to take another look at the Gen II Volt.

Honestly, I would have a gen 1 Volt right now if I hadn't heard about the 2016 refresh by chance. The dealer was having trouble finding the car with the options I wanted and told me to check back in the next day. Went home and found out about the refresh while doing my own car search online. Dealer had found me the exact car I wanted and was ready to bring it in but I told the dealer I would wait and see what the 2016 was like. And now I'm waiting for January to get here.

Pricing hasn't been released for the 2016 yet, but compared to the 2010 Prius I bought and the gen 1 Volt I was looking at was only about 5k difference with both being new. Similar features and the Volt is way more fun to drive, that price also did not include the tax credit currently available. All told the Volt would have ended up being cheaper than my Prius new and with my daily commute I would be using a tank of gas once a year instead of once a month. Pricing speculation for the gen 2 Volt is between 30-35K. Time will tell, but unless they up the price to some silly number I will be getting a gen 2 shortly after it's release next fall.
