Just phoned my local Toyota dealership today to make an appointment for service. I have 2 Toyota's in the household, both purchased from same local dealership and serviced at same.

Was told today that it would be over a week's wait for a service appointment. Phoned an alternate dealership near my work and was told 10 day wait for earliest appointment.

Really? Both these are "big time" urban dealerships clearly with more service business than they can handle. Part of that may be people putting winter tires on their cars, but 7 to 10 days is ridiculous and frankly has put me off a pending Toyota purchase I was contemplating.

Any time prior to this there might be a day's wait, maybe 2 at the most, but there's no way on earth I will wait 10 days to pay premium service prices at the dealership.

Is this common in other parts of US or Canada, or just my bad luck?

My dealer has about a 2 week wait average. Now, due to holidays, closer to 3 weeks for an appointment.

I can get in most any day without an appt. You might have to wait, but why not just drop by?

that's probably a good strategy if you have time to kill. i doubt they would turn away business.

I would rather wait 10 days for an appointment, if the service department honors the scheduled time, than have to wait 12 days for the Toyota Sunnyvale service department to complete a 5k service after my scheduled appointment. :cautious:

I live in a Chicago suburb. There is a Toyota dealer in my area where no appointment is needed. If you want a brake job done, no appointment, just drive in. The dealer I go to has an express lane for an oil change. No appointment necessary. Anything else within reason, maybe a day or two advance.

Where I live, Toyota is the leading car brand, followed by Honda. ;)

I can usually get an online appointment on the next business day. On a couple of occasions, I've also scheduled same-day appointments over the phone with no fuss.

Now with the wife working at a Toyota dealership, all I have to do is send the car in with her. Makes things easy when you have two Toyotas (the other one is a 2011 Camry).

Just brought home the new 2014 v last week. So far enjoying the much increased MPG over the RAV4 that we traded. The RAV4 was a great car, but with my commute it didn't make sense to keep it.

Maybe your area is prime for another Toyota franchise. I have maybe 5 or more dealers I can go to around home and work. Most are next day appointments. Some are longer but then I just go to the next one. What's wrong with scheduling 2 weeks ahead? The maintenance light comes on 500 miles early. Even for my long commute, that's one week notice, not to mention the little sticker they apply to the top left of the windshield.

Hmm, new business model? Service-only "dealership"?

It matters because I don't want to wait a week for a routine service and I don't plan on doing it at home. What should I do if I need a major repair?
