Nope, but that connection, I connected to the wrong grey wire on the main body ECU!

Yeah, it's kinda tricky since I think there's 3 grey wires there.

Ok, here are the instructions to do this on a v ( lowercase v ) You need to get the same parts (except the door handle of course), and follow the same instructions for the Gen III Prius (the link to that is on the 3rd post of this thread) with the following changes:

    1. On page 18 of the instructions, you need to locate the black wire, not the light green wire
    2. On page 10 of the instructions, do not connect the wire harness connector to the connector that is already there. You need to cut the connector off, and attach wires to the blue, yellow, green, black, and red wires of the wire harness, and run them through to the bottom of the footwell of the passenger side. You can run them along with all of the other wires that are already going through the door panel to the same place. Make sure you write down what color wires you connected to each one for later. The purple wire from the wire harness you can ground to any part of the metal in the door.
    3. On page 23 of the write up, you do not need to locate the group of wires that are listed in the instructions, these are the 5 wires that you ran from the wire harness. Once again, make sure you have them labled to the colors from the wire harness.
    4. On page 24 and 25 of the instructions, you need to locate the following wires on the certification ECU:
    Pin 3, blue wire
    Pin 4, yellow wire
    Pin 18, green wire
    Pin 20, purple wire
    Pin 32, grey wire

Then make the following changes on the 6 steps that follow:

Step 1: The BLACK wire from the wire harness needs to be connected to the grey wire on the ECU
Step 2: The red wire from the wire harness needs to be connected to the wire from the hatch, then both of these wires should be connected to the green wire (pin 18) of the ECU
Step 3: The green wire from the wire harness needs to be connected to the purple wire from the ECU (follow the rest of the instructions listed in this step)
Step 4: (top of page 25) The Yellow wire from the wire harness needs to be connected to the blue on the ECU, and the wire that needs to be cut is the Yellow wire from the ECU
Step 5: One of the wires from the hatch (it doesnt matter which) will be connected to the half of the yellow wire that is left in the ECU connector
Step 6: The other wire from the hatch antenna will be connected to the blue wire from the wire harness, then both of those wires will be connected to the half of the yellow wire thats going back to the wire loom
    5. On page 26 of the instructions, the grey wire in the main body ECU that you are looking for is pin #7

It is important that you follow the rest of the instructions as I only listed the changes you need to make. Everything else is the same! Good luck!

Thanks for the followup, off to buy parts.

Once I get this up my wife will be so happy and I less annoyed.

    What a pain Toyota!

    Hi Native2PS!

Is it just me, or in the instructions in Step (1) and (3), you mention hooking up the green wire from the harness twice? I'm thinking I must be missing something or just can't figure it out.

Also, I'm noticing that the colored wires from the harness seem to have different functions in the v than in the Gen. III. Did they change the internal electronics of the Prius v handle? (i.e. the Gen. III harness does fit in the new Prius v handle, but all the colored wires have totally different functions?)

Are you able to ID the functions of each colored wire/pin on the v Certification ECU, and how they match up with the colors from the Gen. III harness?
Here is what I was able to put together from BrettS's writeup for the Gen. III,

    ECU Color__Harness Color__Function:

    Blue___White w/Blue Dots__Handle Power
    Black__White w/Black Dots__"Lock" Signal
    Yellow_ White w/Yellow Dots_"Unlock" Signal
    Green__White w/Green Dots__Antenna Lead 1
Red__ _White w/Red Dots___ Antenna Lead 2

Could we see something like this for the v? I know it's a lot, and I thank you for any advice you can give.

    Thanks!

I'm looking forward to trying this mod in my v.

    Native2PS,

Me again! Here's my best guess on the wire colors vs. functions for the Prius v.
Please let me know if I'm correct or way off base. :)

    ECU Color__Harness Color__Function:

    Grey______Black________Handle Power
    Black______Red________"Lock" Signal
    Purple_____Green_______"Unlock" Signal
    Blue______Yellow_______Antenna Lead 1
    Yellow_____Blue________Antenna Lead 2

    Thanks!

kenchills, GOOD CATCH!! I make a mistake, in Step 1, its the black wire from the harness, not green, I have edited my post! As far as the functions of each wire compared to the Gen III, I looked at the wiring diagram for both cars, and saw that the pin placements were the same on the connector of the door handle, so I assumed that each pin on the door handle did the same function, and went from there. I did not match each color with each function as I was just trying to match Brett's instructions with the correct connection on the ECU, and it worked, but it looks like your list of functions is correct

    Native2PS,

    Very cool!
    Thanks for the response.

How is your SKS range compared to before the mod? Do you notice that you have to get closer to the door to make it work? Just curious.

    Thanks!

    kenchills

    Native2PS,

Just figured out what my confusion was with the wire colors!! You telling me that the pinouts hadn't changed made me think.
I was (stupidly) assuming that the colors of the SKS door wire harness would match the colors of the dots on the group of white wires that you had to dig out and land at the ECU in the Gen III.
I'm almost willing to bet that isn't happening.

Still eager to try this mod out when I get the parts and some time.

    Thanks again!

Just like the feedback from the Gen III peeps that did this mod, the reaction time is delayed by 1 or 2 seconds compared to a car that has the 3 door SKS feature from the factory, it seems like you have to get closer because of the delay, but after a while you get used to it, and the 1 or 2 seconds is hardly noticeable, and its weird, because sometimes it is instant and sometimes there is a slight delay, but the rear hatch works with no delay at all, it is only the door handles that have this slight delay sometimes

Just got finished with this mod yesterday.
Using a combination of documentation from BrettS and Native2PS, I was able to accomplish this mod in about 6-8 hours total time.
Took me so long because I stopped and started many times.

I'm happy to report it works just as stated!
Yes, the range is decreased by approx. one foot, but I gladly give that up to finally have 3 door SKS.
I have not noticed any delay in the unlocking or locking of the doors, only the range decrease.
Thank you guys so much! (BrettS and Native2PS)

I really want to install this, but I've a couple of question about the added functions. Does this allow for driver only from driver handle, then all doors from passenger and trunk? Or only open all doors?

I just got a 2014 prius v2. I was in my 2004 prius for eleven years... And hoping to keep this one for as long.
So while the nav system was not something I wanted again, I'm interested in the sks mod, fog lights and cargo lights. And maybe getting the trailer hitch I've always wanted.

    mfeubanks,

This mod only allows for all doors unlocked from the passenger side handle. You cannot choose to open only the driver's front door from the driver's front door handle, because if you set your car to do this, the passenger side handle and trunk switch would only unlock the driver's door. That would make for the passenger side handle to be useless.
Could be useful for the trunk switch, as after you open the trunk switch, the driver's door would unlock. If you usually travel alone and don't use the passenger or rear doors, just do the trunk switch mod. (but remember to connect the new antenna in series with the existing one from the driver's door.)

The wife usually travels with the kids, so having all doors unlock from all locations is a plus in my book. This may or may not be acceptable to you, but remember that these limitations are because of the one door SKS system. We are just modifying it to better suit our purposes.

    Good luck!

    Hi Native2PS,

I'm using your guide for the 3-door SKS and I'm stuck on page 18 of the BrettS guide. Your post changes the wire tap from lite green to black under the head liner. There are 3 black wires under the head liner. Which one should I tap? Thanks.

Did you ever do the SKS mod on your 2014? Can anyone else confirm Native2PS instructions for this model year level 3?
