Thanx so Much for your quick reply! :cheer2: I took it to the shop that did the body work. Obviously they are NOT Toyota Mechanics which is why I'm seeking further knowledge to relay to them. I watched them as they adjusted the 8mm bolt. BUT That raised the High Beam only. They asked if I had the old light with me so they could see it but I had left it at home. Later I looked at the old light and saw a ring with notches on it for the low beam that has 3 philips head screws. I want to be sure that this is what needs to be adjusted which is why I am writing to you again.
    .
Do you have this section of a 2010 Prius II repair manual you can send me a link to? I hate telling the mechanics what to do without having written authoritative instructions. Like most people they may not like ME telling them what they should do, since I'm just a 56 year old fat old man and they are such young know it all 20 year old studs.

    .
TOYOTA NOTICE! This is a design FLAW! That Toyota would not have a way to adjust headlights without taking the entire bumper loose to remove the headlight assembly unit out of the car and then put the light bulb holder in blind without being able to gauge the elevation of the light while On the car! OMGosh!

(Hope you don't mind all the smillies.... I had fun!)

    Respectfully,

    Matthew Dunham

All I have is a paper copy I printed from the Toyota TIS site. You can get the manuals there but it's kind of a pain and you have to pay $15 for two days. You need a program, such as CutePDF, otherwise all you can do is print the .pdf files off the site. I printed the ones I thought I might need including the headlight aiming one. Here is a thread about how to get the manuals: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-technical-discussion/63088-2010-shop-manual.html

You might get your dealer to let you see the section you are interested in, it is Doc ID: RM0000011MI03JX Title: Lighting (ext) Headlight Assembly: Adjustment (2010 Prius)

I don't, presently, have a working scanner or I would copy it for you.

To paraphrase, Page 5 says there is only one adjustment on each assembly and it adjusts both low and high beams. It says adjust the low beam and the high beam should be OK. It also says if they can't be aimed correctly to check the bulb, headlight unit, and headlight unit reflector installation.

I suspect a bad unit or they have made a mistake with the installation. You may have to tell the body shop to take it to Toyota if they can't do it?

    Continue to have fun. ;)

hey folks, in combo with the h11 h9 mod... I did tweak my headlights up about a 1/4 turn, nice cutoff at the trunk level of the car in front of me... love it. but I' think the lights need to be adjust right/left just a little bit. it just seems that the light is clustered in the center.

I looked, but I did not see an obvious adjuster for left right..

Nope, I looked too. Might be able to shim one of the attachment points though.

So what did it take to install the h9s?

Yeah, well aware of that. :)

So, I haven't really been following along that much but what benefits does the h9 have over h11?

I would like brighter more white lighting but don't want to go HID.

The H9 conversion is great. The H9 bulbs burn hotter than the H11 bulbs, 65w vs 55w, so you get a brighter light. The oem wiring and projector can easily handle the slight increase in current and heat. But you need to stay away from the blue coated bulbs, get some quality clear bulbs.

Here's a great deal on some genuine Osram German made bulbs that are going for half the price of what's being offered on Amazon:

i did not get the osrams just some 65w clear from autozone... and I did notice when I installed them one at a time, so I coudl compare, the 65w was a noticeable difference shooting the lights inside my garage at the wall..

I got some generic clear H9 65w bulbs from eBay and the output was kind of yellowish. The Osram bulbs output was definitely whiter. I tried a pair of GP Thunder 7500k blue coated bulbs as well. The lights viewed from the front had a clean very white appearance, but there was vary little contrast from the driver's seat with those blue bulbs. Couldn't see any potholes in the road, etc. The Osram bulbs definitely light up the road well compared to the blue bulbs.

I've seen figures of 500 hours posted, but it's all relative to how often you turn it off and on and how long they stay on, etc.

Hello. The passenger low beam halogen headlight lamp went out so I replaced both passenger and driver sides with a new lamp (H11). To test it out, I projected the headlights onto my garage door; see photo below. What is causing that roundish dark image on the passenger side? Thinking that I perhaps did not install the new lamp correctly, I removed and re-attached it back -- but this did not get rid of the image. Any advice? Thank you.

Try swapping the bulbs between passenger and driver's side. If same pattern, it's something with the housing/projector. If reversed, it's the bulb.

Thanks for your advice. I swapped the bulbs and the "black hole" still appears on the passenger side. Hence, it's a headlight housing/projector problem. Sounds like I'll have to open it up.......
