Actually in just one week from tomorrow, GM will be introducing the 2016 Cadillac ELR at a Press Day event at the LA Auto Show. The 2014 ELR uses an essentially identical battery and powertrain as the 2014 Volt. It seems possible that the 2016 ELR could be based on the Volt 2.0 2016 Volt so they might implicitly reveal more 2016 Volt info then.

I agree that Toyota is dropping the ball here. I'm getting ready to replace my Gen II. I don't like what they did to the interior of the Gen III so have been waiting for Gen IV. Since it's been delayed, I've tried other cars. Drove a new Fit yesterday. It's a good car, but noisy engine on the highway. Reminded my of how nice my Prius is (except for the very numb!!! steering). Meanwhile, I'm reading some very interesting things about the next-gen Volt.

Dang! That show's going to be THICK with reveals!
I could easily understand why a manufacturer would skip that one if only to avoid getting lost in the crowd.

They're probably just waiting until right before the show starts, or even surprise announcing it at the show to reveal the next gen Prius. If it really is a no-show, then GM is going to steal their thunder with the gen 2 Volt. And if it's as good as they're claiming, with rumored specs of 50 miles EV, 42-ish mpg on regular gas, and a fifth seat, then a lot of people will probably just go "meh" at the next gen Prius. Especially if it's just "Gen 3 with slightly better mpg".

Granted, the Volt isn't directly competing against the (non-plug in) Prius, but if it comes out with those specs or better, I might be tempted to get one myself.

Especially because according to Toyota execs, nobody wants electric vehicles. Never mind what Nissan, Tesla, and BMW are doing, the future is fuel cells vehicles only, no room for anything else! So shut up and give us your tax dollars!

Sarcasm aside, I'm glad that automakers are coming out with these sorts of vehicles. It's nice to have viable alternatives to cars that simply use gas (inefficiently), and as time passes, those alternate fuel cars will become more commonplace as they become more affordable and powerful.

Hmm, makes me think the Gen IV won't be revealed until later. It brings back the conversation Toyota had with someone stating that the Gen IV doesn't have to debut in the US or even California - almost hinting that it could debut somewhere else internationally. It will be revealed, will there be another delay? That's the question

I've posted this on other forums so here's the Cliffs Notes.
    • They said last year there's a 6-month delay on the Prius.
    • Americans are the only people who expect a Japanese car company to debut a car in America.
    • If the next gen really is totally revolutionary then announcing it too early could suppress the sales of the 2015 model year.

6 month delay, edmunds had slated an unveling in fall 2014 as a 2015 model. This stayed there for the latest time. So 6 months - let's say from october = March reveal. So I guess ok, not expected to be revealed in Jan.

The last statement about sales...well, sales are slowing for the Prius especially with lower gas prices.

Internet Explorer let their market share slowly decrease until the new kid on the block (FireFox) took over market share. Now IE is playing catch up.

There's a time to ride the wave and then a time to just let it go down. Yes Volt sales are hurt, but there is a lot of interest in Volt 2.0

The large plastic cover on the windshield ahead of the rear mirror makes me thing that there'll be either a camera or a pair of lasers mounted there for rain-sensing wipers, auto high-beam, LKA and/or collision avoidance technology.

The 2014 and 2015 Volt already have an optical camera-based Lane warning and collision avoidance system that is mounted in that area. Most cars will get that option soon.

I actually recently installed an aftermarket version in my 2011 Volt from the company, Mobile Eye, that makes the technology integrated by many of the car companies like Chevrolet and Tesla. It also recognizes speed limit signs and can warn if you exceed it by a user-settable level, and it can automatically control your high beams by detecting oncoming traffic that would be blinded.
