Oh, you are correct, it does state that you have to have the EOE recall completed before the extended warranty is in affect.

So, I guess you are taking the risk that your IPM will not fail ?

I knew there was a reason that I had the EOE done against my better judgement :)

I have a 2010 Prius with 128K miles. The car has been virtually maintenance free for four years. I was driving the other night and felt a soft bump (as if I hit a small animal in the road). Just after that, all the warning lights came on and the display read "check hybrid system." The car was still running, so I pulled over and tried shutting off and restarting the car. It still had the same lights. I was able to drive to a dealership, but the battery was not charging. The dealership told me the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) inside the converter and the repair would cost around $3000 depending on whether I replaced the IPM or the whole inverter. I called Toyota and they replace the IPM free of charge. I had never received the recall or letter mentioned here. The dealership said they see it a lot on the Highlander hybrids but not on the Prius.

Good to hear that Toyota replaced the IPM for you.

Are you the original owner? If so you should have received the EOE Safety Recall and the Warranty Enhancement letters. I would be sure to let your dealer know so that he can have you added to the Toyota database.

You can also go to the ToyotaOwners website, create an account and list your VIN.
