Car was in the body shop. I noticed that they charged the starting battery. Now when I fill the tank, the miles remaining starts out about 100 miles higher than before. Is there a way to reset this value? It seems that it will now run dry and still show around 100 miles left.

Battery ran down while at the body shop (left door open?). Computers reset when all power is lost. When charger was connected the computers powered up with all variables set to default - after a tank or 2 it should learn the proper values. The fuel gauge should still display properly.

Thanks, kc, that was what I expected. It started out 200 miles high and has improved, but it's been about 6 fill ups...so I'm getting concerned.

I generally run my tank low then fill up every time I get fuel.
What I have found is my (tank) MPG display reading times 10 will give me my total range.
Say 55 MPG displayed I would expect to get ~550 miles before the fuel gauge light starts flashing.
When fuel gauge starts flashing I find that is about the same time as my miles remaining has dropped to 0.

I do not use the miles remaining indicator at all. I find the MPG (displayed) *10 to be quite accurate.
When I do fill up the tank will take around 10 gal.

The fuel tank is 11.9 gal, so I still have quite a bit of fuel in reserve.

I have found that the MPG computer in my car is consistently about 5% on the high side.

Just keep an eye on the fuel gauge?

Maybe they removed the battery from the car to charge, which would typically reset everything.

(My parents '58 Beetle, the fuel gauge was a stick. ;))

Hi Mendel, until 2 years ago, I had a 1953 MG TD...also used a stick for a fuel gauge. As simple as it gets, so there were no hi-tech promises or expectations! Seriously, what I miss, was that, when embarking on a trip of considerable mileage, we knew if we needed to gas up or not. Knowing that you are down to 2 or 3 bars, sometimes you just can't take a chance and, as a precaution, we fill-up. The mileage computer used to be dead-nuts on!
