Does anybody have experience with the cargo net?

Cargo Net for 2010-2014 Toyota Prius - OEM - PriusChat Shop

My wife has been using our new Prius for grocery trips, and is wanting something to help keep milk, etc, from rolling around in the back.

Does this work well? Is it strong enough to keep a few gallons of milk from sliding around?

Looks good, and the price isn't bad!

It works great. I had one on my old Prius and am about to buy another for my persona.

FYI, Also look into the spider net. I thought it was silly at first but you'll be amazed what it can hold in place. I used it every day.

We have one in our 2012 Four (not IV as Roman Numerals were used for the 2010 model year Prius) (also blizzard, not that it matters), and it is nice for small things. It is rather narrow to fit in the hatch opening. Also, if you are carrying things, like a milk container...or fruit that can be easily bruised, you must remember to push it forward when loaded, or the hatch will bang it pretty hard if you're not careful. Don't forget that you have a nice storage area under the rear floor for small things.

We like these Trunk Organizers from HF.
I believe I paid less when they were on sale (and stuff is constantly going on sale at HF).
Keeps groceries from sliding around and also makes it easier to haul them to the kitchen.
They fold up compactly for easy storage.

I love the cargo net. I had a similar one on my van, but rarely used it because it was easier to put a few items behind the front seats. I have a problem accessing the driver's side rear door when the car is in the garage, so I use the cargo area all the time for almost everything. It does surprisingly well holding up milk jugs, etc. You do have to make sure to set things in away from the closing hatch door, but that becomes habit rather quickly. I use Amazon boxes also to keep other things from sliding around and have thought about getting the organizer from HF too, but really don't need it. I also use some small boxes in the bottom compartment to carry essentials; lap blankets, small pillows, umbrellas, bungee cords, etc. Surprisingly, we haven't used the blankets or pillows since we got the Prius, they were holdovers from what we carried in our van.

Initially I wasn't thrilled that the cargo net was added to the car before delivery but it is useful. Hopefully by now you don't need to drill holes in your car for mounting.

Yeah ours is 2010, has these D-Rings mounted on the hatch walls. That said, we've never used the thing, don't quite understand why it's right at the hatch opening.

It's very simple, just unscrew the screws on each side of the hatch where the net attaches, thread the screw through the provided little metal hook thingy, reinsert the screws, attach each side of the net onto the hooks. Voila.

If you own a screwdriver and can turn one, total time for this endevor is like 2-3 mins max.

Interesting, thanks for clarifying that. I learned something new! (y)

No worries on the screw drive, I'm covered :)

I have one and the only time I use it is when I forget my ALDI bag(s). Most, if not all, of the Toyota genuine aftermarket accessories are cheaper on eBay.

It does once the hooks are installed. Mine came with, so I didn't have to install anything. Apparently there are 2 hooks that come with the net and they need to be installed into the sides just below where the tonneau cover slides into place. Sounds like there are already 2 screws there, so it's just a matter of taking them out, putting the hooks on and screwing them back in. If you want I can post a photo, but I'm sure you'll see what I'm talking about once you take a look. The top of the net connects to those hooks and the bottom connects to the 2 chrome hooks on the floor of the cargo bay.

I'll look tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be obvious.

I can't open the rear hatch with my garage door closed, and I'm too lazy tonight... My middle son (who's turning 5) had his birthday party today, so it's been a madhouse of 4 & 5 year olds all day

    Thank you though!! (y)

The cargo net mounting changed some time after MY 2010. The nets installed on early production started pulling out. The problem was solved before the end of 2009.

I just checked, and yes, I see screws (not hooks) where the tonneau cover "latches". Seems easy enough, and I totally see what you guys are talking about.

    Thanks!

I hang the cargo net off the back of the rear seat where it is not in the way. I reused the cargo net from my 2007 Camry. To install, snap the top loops of the net into the seat belt guides on the top of the back seat. Use small D-rings to connect the bottom loops of the cargo net to the cargo tie-down rings on the cargo floor. Works like charm, is out of the way and actually looks cool. You do have to disconnect the top loops from the back seat when folding down the back seat, which is easy to do and for me is not often.

Here are pictures of my cargo net empty and with items:

I had to junk my '07 Prius, but took the cargo net. I looked at my '11 and no metal loops to hook the top clips. I assume my dealer has those metal loops?

Gen3 uses a loop at the top. Not a hook. See if you can spot it on mine.
