It is. The article refers to the gen2 Volt. The Volt gen1 was also sold here in the UK alongside the gen1 Ampera. Neither new version is to be sold.

"Thailand joins Europe and Australia on the list of markets which won’t receive the 2016 Chevrolet Volt EV. The first-generation car had previously sold as the Opel Ampera in Europe, and the Holden Volt in Australia, but the plug-in is being dropped in 2016 due to lackluster sales."

I think this is probably very true for the UK market. I don't think there was much gm could have done to have the volt or ampera sell well there, but the ampera strategy of making it more expensive with higher content for europe was a fail. GM Europe simply seem incompetent, and has been bleeding lots of cash every year for at least 5 years. GM should have shed most european operations at firesale prices during the bankrupcy, it would have saved them lots of money by now. I have little confidence that the current gm plan will make gm europe profitable, but pushing the volt or ampera clearly would not work. The bolt may be the right car for europe.

Is that a gen2 Volt with a EU plate on it or an EU Astra pretending to be a Volt?

Whatever it is it looks good. I'd buy one. But would they overprice it again? GM Europe are weird though. I don't think they know what they want to do; a pushmepullyou I think.

Is this something their design team are working on?

It's an artist's rendition of a Gen II Opel Ampera, based on the Gen II Volt.

Well it's a very good one. That would sell if priced the same as the Outlander or i3. It looks smart.

If they don't sell that, they've no hope. No wonder they're losing market share quicker than Obama loses votes.

Perhaps the new Volt will be available as one in the future, but I suspect not making one now will help with production costs.

On some models they lose thousands of euros on every one they sell, so shrinking market share may not be a bad thing. IMHO killing chevy in europe was a good idea, as vaxhall and opel had too many overlaps with chevy. If there is a good chevy in america for export to europe, they could just name it a vauxhall or opel so no need for 3 brands.
GM expects 2016 profit in Europe, growth in China
They claim that they will be profitable in 2016 in Europe, but I doubt it. They seem to say that kind of thing every year. We know losses will be there this year.

I'm sure if in 2016 they see a market in the UK for the volt there will be a vauxhall volt, or some other name. I doubt there is a profitable market for that car though. I have no idea if outlander phev is making or losing money in europe.

It has a lot of Acura style. I actually like the Volt 2.0 than most of Acura's styling. But that does not say much considering Acura cars look ugly compare to other cars in the luxury class.

Huh? $60,000 for a Volt? LEAF is also a quite a bit lower than $40,000 MSRP. The LEAF is more like $29,000.

Volt MSRP is $35,000 including destination charge which is $27,500 after federal tax credit (and less after some state rebates). Volt's are also available with significant discounts at high volume dealers.

In California, you can typically get a new Volt off the dealer lot for $22,000 after credits and rebates but not including sales tax & title registration. A LEAF at MSRP after credits in CA is $19,000 and then take off any dealer discounts from that.

Sorry the post quote didn't work. Yes I'm talking Australia. The outlander is similarly priced to the diesel so I can justify that. I can almost justify a leaf as it should save approx 10k in fuel over 7 years but all other models need a price drop. I think the Volt is dearer in NZ, close to 90k i think!!!

right. they wouldn't be selling over here at those prices either. it's all about government kick backs and fleet mileage requirements. they're forced to make them affordable to an extent.

Are those the current Australian prices? If so, the Japanese brands' prices may be reflecting the recent elimination of the import taxes. Are those taxes high enough to make the Volt price outrageous? Since Australia won't be getting the 2016 Volt for the fore see able future, the question is out of curiosity.

The LEAF also has the $3500 finance rebate along with 0% APR for 72 months, and another $2500 or so off if you qualify for VSP pricing, so quite a bit cheaper than that price.
