As mentioned earlier, the PiP does not. Moreover, having the heater set to anything other than Lo will compel the PiP to run its engine to provide heat, no matter how short the trip.

the good thing about the thin chinese heater cord is, you can hold it in your hand to keep your fingers warm.

Newer Leaf steering wheels are pre-heatable - so between those, the heated seats - & pre-warming off the EVSE, you're good to go. What was really nice & slick - the PiP's test mule fleet had heat pumps. Now THAT's an item Toyota should NOT have gone cheep on. They were great. Here's to hoping they'll be reinstated on the Gen II PiP. That, & more range.

The Volt does have cabin pre-heating (GM calls it "Pre-conditioning").

That's probably not the point that the original poster was trying to get to.
Maybe he should have asked, is there a 12v heater that can be used, and degrade EV range by maybe 5% or 10% that, in his climate, keep him comfortable enough that on a short trip does NOT require using gas.

If you don't want to bother, then don't. But I read his question as I have reworded it.

I get the point, but there's a bit of denial involved with the practicality of it. It's not really worth the effort in a practical sense, but it's still a technically valid point.

There's no 12V heater that breaks the laws of physics that I know about. The most you can get out of the 12V battery is a few hundred watts for a few minutes. There's no magic that can warm up your car with that.

I know the DC-DC converter puts out more than that, but remember the car has to be running, and then there's heat going to waste from the engine anyway. It's all a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

A heat pump will move three or so times the power input so a few hundred Watts may be used to supply three times that in heating to the car. That becomes worthwhile.

And it's all electric no ICE- It can draw in excess of 6600 watts in "Comfort" mode so it pre-heats the cabin quickly even in an sub-freezing temps.
If you have the Volt plugged in while pre-heating the cabin- it will supply 3300 watts from the L2 240v mains and the other 3300 watts from the big traction battery. Once the pre-heat session ends (it runs for 10 min up to 2x if requested) the 240v L2 mains will replenish the EV battery in 10-20 min... so you get a warm cabin and full EV battery to start off with.

It's a very well thought out system and it keeps the ICE from running until it gets below 15f outside.

Maybe this can warm up you poor freezing folks; - around here, it'll be in the mid to high 80's during the next 5 days. If it cools down enough at dusk, I'll throw on the flippy floppies and go out for a night time cruise.

    no 12v heater required
    :D

no seat heaters? No one enjoys sitting on leather so cold that you fear it'll start cracking -

About four years ago, we had a Christmas day where temps were in the mid-80s. I rode my bicycle down to Main Beach in Laguna and took pictures of the volleyball players and sunbathers. Because I was working for a national consulting firm, most of my co-workers were from the Midwest or East Coast and they constantly gave me grief about California's bankrupt economy.

They shut up when I attached the two beach pictures with the caption, "Sure, we may be bankrupt, but can you do this on Christmas where you live?"
