Question: Toyota attempts to keep the traction battery between 20% and 80% for a long useful life. How does max charging to 100% and discharging to around 0 help other than the weakest cells?

Shop called with battery assessment update: it's at about 45-50%. So...this explains so much!

Then...I was all ready to buy a grid charger. I reread the responses here and other places and talked to other folks.

Totally slipped my mind that I need to plug it in! I really like the idea, but I live in an apartment with a detached garage. I thought there was an outlet available, but there is none. Getting the hv battery. ...my oh my...

    Still a cool car.

I'm researching sound deadening. Looks like fun.

Due to being repetitively cycled within the same range, all of the cells in the battery pack will build crystal formations that reduce usable battery capacity. By cycling the battery above and below this memory affected range, you can break the crystals down and regain lost performance and capacity.

Further, due to the vehicles limited usable battery range, the car cannot correct cell imbalances on its own. Only by very slowly and safely charging the battery to max capacity (while cooling it) can you rebalance the cells with each other.

Can’t you just steal electricity from lighting or similar?

I'd need a time traveling DeLorean with a working flux capacitor.

In all seriousness, we have customers who (legally) use a light bulb socket converter to get power in their carport/garage. The charger never draws more current than a 75W light bulb, so it is well within the capabilities of a typical lighting circuit.

Yes, that is correct. To do this most here are using the Hybrid Automotive Prolong charger.

As an aside, your location is Aveiro, Portugal?
