Ok guys here is the situation I'm in.I a just ordered 3 Michilin X3 snows from tire rack that will get to me on Monday the 2nd for my 2014 Prius 3 we in NJ are expecting another major snow storm I was wondering.if it's ok temporary to put the 3 snow tires on leaving one OEM tire on until I order the 4th Michilin X3 in two weeks. Or is this a bad idea

I'd very much dislike the asymmetric traction. OK for short use on bare dry pavement (e.g. a full size spare), but I would tremble if facing any great distance in foul condition, such as a major snow storm.

Why wait for the 4th tire? Budget, availability, other?

i think you're okay for low speed around town driving, put the snows in front i guess? if you have to hit the highway, sit low and drive slow.;)

    bad idea/
assuming you put them on the rear, regarding if you make a right or left curve, you have pretty much one time the grip of the winter tire & the other time the grip of your all-season tire/
same bad thing with breaking; the abs & stability controls don't know that you have two different tires on the same axle/

it might work, but from my pov you're pretty much asking for problems to happen//

I'd expect the ABS and stability control to notice the difference quite promptly, and adapt to it much better than the vast majority of drivers could. One is much more likely to get by with these systems than in older cars lacking them. But they still can't perform miracles.
    Agreed.

You may have difficulty talking the tire shop into mounting them, but use common sense and you will be OK. H

3 and 1 in winter weather conditions...don't do it. If you feel overly compelled, just do the front two or back two (another arguement) until the 4th comes in.

as others pointed out: bad idea. It will create imbalance which can send you into spin. Generally it is not advisable to put 2 different brand/type/thread tires on the same axle. Put 2 front only as majority of braking, turning and motivation comes from front.
