    This is a remarkable study of the hybrid system with pictures of components coupled with detailed electrical specifications, mass and volume of constituent parts, operating characteristics, and some flowcharts and performance/efficiency diagrams. It benchmarks and compares 2010 Prius with older versions that were used in 2004 Prius, 2007 Camry and Lexus.

    From the summary:

    "The 2010 Toyota Prius subsystem assemblies were physically evaluated and comprehensively tested in the laboratory to fully assess their performance, efficiency, design, and packaging characteristics. Laboratory evaluations included back-emf, locked rotor, performance, efficiency mapping, and continuous load tests."

    Industrial espionage is stealing secrets. There's nothing secret about the contents of the car once it's released for sale; anybody is welcome to buy one, disassemble it, analyze it, test it, etc. I would call this competitive analysis instead. There may still be secrets in *how* it's made, or why they chose a particular way of making it over any other - but those are all still entirely within the company and not exposed to the public. Anything that Toyota invented is likely to be protected by patents anyway, in which case the broad strokes are already public.

    (I realize your tongue may be firmly planted in your cheek, but figured I'd respond anyway...)
