'09 Prius now making a strange cycling noise pattern?

    the noise is not the inverter water pump could it be a 3 way valve?

    it is not the break modulator. that is a different noise. i am having issues loading the sound file. to thread.

    It sounds like the Coolant Thermos pump is stuck on.

    When is it making this noise? In ready mode? Or when the car is off?

    the noise occurs in ready mode, after coolant has cycled through the system.

    Could that be due to a faulty or failing 3way cooling valve?

    What controls/regulates turning on and off the coolant thermos pump? Does the 3way valve control the switching on and off of the Coolant Thermos Pump? Is so could that valve be the issue.

    When I bought the car it had only 7 miles on it. I have since put 167,000 miles on it and have learned how to clearly distinguish a normal sound from an abnormal pattern of sound. This is an abnormal pattern in that it occurs for different intervals and at different times but only after the car has been warned up.

    It's your coolant control valve. I had the same problem last year.
