Does anyone know where the grid lines are made? Like, are they just a part of the camera, or, somehow a programed in thing? I am sure the lines that move, as mentioned by our1vue above would have to be programed software, (and what good would moving lines be anyway?) But, could just replacing the stock camera, possibly bring in grid lines?

    Beachnut,
The moving grid lines show you where the car will go/be based on the direction the steering wheel. If the steering wheel is straight, the grid lines are straight back. If the steering wheel is turned, the grid lines hook left or right. In my setup, the camera generates the grid lines. Attached is a picture from the camera when I was testing it out and it was not attached to the prius. You can see the grid lines.

This is an extract from the accessory installation document for Part Number:00016-32027, Rear Camera For Display Audio Kit.

Prius 2014 Rear Camera For Display Audio

    Programming The Camera Guide Lines
This backup camera has the capability of displaying no guidelines, or any one of a selection of up to 9 different
sets of guide lines. Set the camera to GUIDELINE 1 using the programming sequence below.
    For vehicles with Smart Key:
When you press the START button the first time, it will to go ACC mode. The second press will switch
the vehicle to ON mode. The 3rd press will shut it off.
    1. Leave your foot OFF of the brake pedal through the programming procedure.
    2. Double press the START button for the “ON” mode. After 3 seconds, press again to shut off.
    3. At the 3 second mark the Toyota logo will appear on the radio display. As soon as this
appears you can shut the vehicle off.
    4. Once off, wait 1 second, then repeat step 1-3 four (4) more times for a total of 5 ignition cycles.
    5. Upon the 5th turn-on, leave the vehicle on and immediately shift the vehicle into reverse.
Please refer to the timing diagram below.
The screen should now display “Setting” and start to cycle through the different options for guide line. Once the
screen displays the setting for GUIDELINE 1 quickly shift the vehicle back into park and shut off the key. This will
store the last set of lines displayed on the screen and set that to default. Refer to the image below. SET-AI-1078-D.jpg

Is that supposed to work with 2015 "stock" cam? I could not get it to work with mine. Anyone else have luck with it?

Interesting to see if this is a newly found Easter egg. Looking forward to see if someone can make this happen on a stock system. In the meantime, I've just learned to line up the bottom right corner of the screen with the right side line or curb. I land dead center in the space every time.

Hi everyone. I would like to install a rear view camera into my wifes 2014 Prius.
My new 2015 Toyota Tacoma seems to be Pre-Wired for ever option. So I'm wondering if my wifes Prius is pre wired for the rear view camera. I found where I can get an OEM camera. If not then I will need to get a Cames install kit.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

    Van

I stopped at the dealer who printed out the same PDF file .

I may end up going after market:
Good post. I went to the Toyota dealer where I purchased my wife's 2014 Prius and my 2015 Tacoma. I asked for a copy of the Installation instructions. So I could see if I wanted to do the installation on my own. I'm an Avionics tech so it shouldn't be a big deal. Everything is snap off/snap on. Only need a 10 mm socket wrench and a #2 Phillips screwdriver. I'm just not sure if I'm going to go aftermarket or OEM. If I go after market, I may get this one.

Scan down in the add and there will be a good you tube video on the install of the camera for the Prius

    Here is the Video....

    Mongo1958,
There is a writeup stuck to the top of this forum that shows how to do this on a 2012 Prius. I think some one had a 2013 and that worked too. The only funny is someone had a different connector in their headliner than what was seen before. I don't remember what
year that was. Bottom line (at least for the 2012), the camera wires are there up to a connector in the headliner. You have to run
the wires from that connector to the opening in the rear hatch (and add the camera of course). The radio will sense the camera
(if it is wired in correctly) and you should be good to go. Or you can go the aftermarket route as others have done. Any questions,
you know where to ask :)
If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting an OEM camera. I have a cheapy camera that looks like it is clouding up from
the salt on the roads. Guess it was not as watertight was they said.

I’m looking on EBay to get the stuff I need to install the camera. I did get a set of Interior Trim Toolset at local auto parts store.
I tried to look for the Sticky Camera post that you mentioned but could not find it. Could you please provide a link? Thanks

I installed one from Amazon and did a DIY thread on PriusChat for my 2013. No "programming" of the grid. There are two wires. If you cut one, the image will be "upside down" (for cases where the image you get needs to be 180 degrees from default). If you cut the other, the grid lines are not present. I don't see the point of the grid lines except to give you an idea of being "too close." A backup cam should just be to let you see what's off your rear when windows don't cut it. I'd not trust "curving" lines to be any more accurate.

Unfortunately the factory Prius cameras dont have the guide line feature. You can replace the factory camera and add a aftermarket camera with guidelines. This is the way to go if you really need and want the guidelines when reversing.

Does anybody KNOW *if* Toyota has a software upgrade for the 2014 Prius 4 that will ENABLE those "back-up" lines to be visible?

Thank you kind Sir, for spending your hard earned money on a Toyota product that is half baked at best. My 07 Prius #2 had a backup camera that was rare back in the day, everyone liked it. When I picked up my 2013 #4 with Nav there was no grid on the backup camera and no way to turn one on. Screen washes out in the sun, camera looks like a prism if facing the sun, radio reception is poor, satellite radio is no good and if the thing goes bad it will be big bucks to replace the unit. I feel that my next vehicle will be back to basic. Why pay big bucks to listen to HD-No HD, static on the radio.
