Yes, Civic Hybrid still made and receiving updates: For 2015 it gained smart entry and push button start.
I have spoken with many repair shop owners and they all say Hondas are great cars save some trouble with some models transmissions. Word is some trannys have no filter and therefore need timely oil changes, but of course many neglect that.
And yes the V6 transmissions on Pilots in early 2000s broke all the time.

what cycledrum said above. Honda Civic Hybrids have weak tranny. Toyota Prii all have advanced tranny system. As someone else stated above, Prii are more advanced in just about every way than HCH. However, HCH looks prettier and much more normal looking. If you can see past the outer skin, you can't go wrong with a Prius.

Thanks for the replies everyone, so I am going to go with a prius just having a hard time deciding between Prius C Three 2014 or a Prius Three 2015. If I go with the C I save $5,000. I drive around 36,000 miles a year as well. I don't need much room but besides space are there any notable differences between the two?

Oh yeah and 90% of my driving is on a highway with speeds around 70 MPH

I think the regular Prius fares better on the highway, for stablility, mpg.

Do test drive both, or at least check out the interior of both. I've sat in a C, found it very different, a bit of a step down, no offense.

What Mendel said but..."If" total cost of ownership is your sway on the decision of C over Hatchback consider this...how much gas can you buy with the $5,000 savings.

Both good contenders. I have a personal preference to the prius hatchback because of the (much) nicer interior IMO. Just sayin :D

oh boy, look very carefully into the crash safety ratings and tests between the C and liftback. Consumer Reports does not recommend the C (or very recently not)

I have both Gen3 and C and IMHO hatchback is overall better choice. C wins in ergonomics, handling, but looses in almost everything else: passenger space, MPG, acceleration. Though on paper C's trunk is 23% smaller, in reality it is more like 40%+. So if you need a family car go with hatch, if you need a city commuter go with C.

Looks like prius 2015 it is! Not much city commuting so doesn't make sense to go with prius c. Going in Monday to get the prius 2015. Does the prius 3 come with moonroof?

Depends on your "Toyota Region". Do the search based on your zip.

Not that you need more reinforcement but yeah the Liftback is the way to go if you're doing highway (both Prius c and Prius Liftback are rated at 48mpg on the highway anyway, so why not going for the one that's a bit more comfortable?).

Officially? It's available as an option. It depends if your region stocks it. (You can factory order but you will have to wait and the dealer would rather you buy one off their lot).

I have had 4 Honda Civic Hybrids and 3 Prius's. the Prius has a large amount of internal usable space and has a much higher quality build. lemoned lawed one of the Hondas for piston slap.

Will not go back to a Honda. Maybe a new leaf in 2017.

As the owner of both a Prius and Insight, I am telling you to go for the Prius. Prius is more powerful, comfortable, quieter, efficient, roomier and advanced than the Civic hybrid.

Honda IMA is closer to a regular car's drivetrain, while the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive is closer to that of an electric car.

The Honda IMA takes a regular car's drivetrain and substitutes the transmission's flywheel with an electric motor, which is connected to a battery-pack and control electronics. The motor is only good for assisting the gasoline engine, not powerful enough to move the car on its own except under very rare circumstances (such as maintaining speed under 25mph on a stretch of flat road). The moment you let your foot off the brake at stoplight, the gasoline engine has to start running. Put simply, the Honda is simply a far harder car to drive well. Partly it’s the bucking and jerking of the engine clutch engage and disengage from the Autostop function. I've tried everything to try to smooth it out, and sometimes it works, but 60% of the time, your head will be thrown back into the headrest. And it gets even more annoying in traffic jams. Whereas the Prius can pull away silently on electric power alone.

The rest of the Honda IMA drivetrain is the same as a regular car-- Engine crankshaft connected to either a multispeed geared transmission and torque converter (such as on the Gen.1 Accord Hybrid), a friction-belt-driven CVT transmission and torque converter (current Civic Hybrid, Insight's and some CR-Z's), or a manual transmission with clutch (an option on the CR-Z.)
The Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive on the other hand does not have a conventional transmission like the Honda IMA. Instead, it uses a Power Split Device, which is a simple planetary gearset that combines the power from two electrical motor/generators (MG1 and MG2) and the gasoline engine. The entire PSD assembly is directly geared to the wheels, without a torque converter or clutch. This is similar to an electric car, which can have direct gearing to the wheels without a clutch or torque converter, because electrical motors can exert maximum torque at 0 RPM.

The Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive, like an electric car, can move the car under electric power alone. How the Power Split Device transmission in the Hybrid Synergy Drive works: Toyota Prius - Power Split Device

Personally, I like the Toyota system better. It's MUCH simpler than the Honda IMA system, with just 22 moving parts in the Prius PSD vs. about 100 in the IMA systems gearbox and torque converter.

The PSD eliminates the need for multiple gear ratios (which means no gear-shifting wear-and-tear), does not have a hot-running torque converter (which means the tranny fluid lasts A LOT longer-- 60,000 miles), and no clutch or CVT belts. That means the Toyota system has far fewer potential failure points and would be more durable.

Let us know how it gone.

When we carshopped I tried to sit in all seats, bring bulky luggage, move seats, adjust, try cup holders, etc. Park, take through tight turns, test drive. It would be hard to live with car if car seat and stroller don't fit and you have a small kid to take care of. Maybe not now, a couple years down the road

If they still make a civic hybrid they should not. Nice car but poor hybrid system. IMA is junk. Buy a proven hybrid Prius hands down. Hal

And yes, the three model can be had with the moonroof with solar panels. The only packages that can come with the solar roof is the three and the four.
