    Hi All,
Since getting our 2015 Gen Three Prius, I have become enamored with SiriusXM radio (I am not BealtleBob for nuthin', mind you!)
Now I get to thinking how awesome it would be to have satellite radio in our 2004 Prius. I have researched the options based on Priuschat, the SiriusXM site, and Crutchfield. It seems Onyx is an option of last resort for looks and functionality. A far preferred way to go, i.e., easiest, cheapest, aesthetically appealing, is to install an SXV300 tuner, which would plug directly into to stereo
Questions: is my 2004 Prius, equipped with the navigation system and JBL system, one that is satellite ready and compatible with the tuner? Are there links to discussions on this page or elsewhere you could provide?
    Thanks, in advance,
    Beatle
PS -- If you are reading this after my other posts re the 2004 Prius, you might think to yourself, first things first is get the car in shape with the repair and maintence work that's needed. You would be right, however, I am excited thinking ahead to possibilities of cool tunes in my reborn 2004 Prius. That's how I get sometimes. Thanks

I have a SIR-TOY1 and SCC1 tuner that I have leftover from trading in my 2007 a few weeks ago that I am willing to part ways with, in exchange for currency (USD preferred). :D

Do you have the AM-SAT button on your radio?

my Prius has an AM button that displays AM and a satellite dish On the MFD. Same for the FM button. Is that good?

This issue of 2004 Prius JBL 56838 compatibility with SiriusXM is maddening. My next step is to reach out to Coastal Tech to see whether they can tell me anything.

I am told by a rep from Vais Tech that in order to get SiriusXM in my car I need an SL3 tuner kit. It will integrate SiriusXM so I can access it using the AM button. All controls categories and presets can be controlled using the radio, MFD, and steering wheel controls.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

    Hi All,
Here's an update. Today a buddy and I installed the Vais Tech SL3B bluetooth unit. It was tricky unassembling and reassembling the dashboard, and we got through it in about 2 hours. A couple screws were left over. I ate them because we worked past the dinner hour, so nothing was wasted, and no one noticed. Seriously, the couple leftover screws were negligible in my opinion. The important points are that the dash is reassembled and everything works, and the SL3B is programmed and operating off my Galaxy Note 3, broadcasting Sirius radio based on smartphone-online-bluetooth reception. The SL3B works well and I am really looking forward to many happy musical times in my Prius. We were helped along by a Youtube video of a guy or two removing the dash components and the MFC and radio, and learned a lot from that.

I would put this on the list of next steps. There are six speakers total by my count -- four up front and two in the rear. There might be two more rear tweeters. Can you confirm? They all work fine, even if they sound crappy, except one -- front floor passenger side is blown due to excessive loudness, likely by my son. What is a good upgrade path, based on a Goldilocks not too expenvie but just right quality approach?
Thanks. btw -- Gibson doesn't make car speakers, do they? :)

if it had JBL w/ rear tweeters, they'd be in the rear doors near the top with a small grill.

alpine tweeters snap right into the factory clips, and have a very clear not harsh sound, so that's my first choice. i had them in my '04 and where the oem tweeters are slushing sounding, with alpines you can hear the tap of the drum stick on the cymbals. crutchfield.com should have some component speakers which will work in the front just fine. parts-express.com has Dayton audio 7" 4 ohm woofers which will fit the rear doors without cutting, and they hit pretty hard. when it comes to woofers, despite all the nonsense written by journalists, bigger is better. but the Dayton 7" is the largest I could find that didn't require any cutting, only had to drill for the mounting screws. if you don't mind doing some modding, you can stuff 8" woofers in the rear doors. but Dayton audio makes drivers for name brands. the quality is good. certainly you will hear McCartney's bass line over the road noise.

Gibson doesn't even make amps anymore, but they'll make you a les paul in any flavor you like, and charge you 3x what its really worth.

Thanks for the speaker advice. I updated the other forum thread on the maintenence stuff, where you have pitched in and been most helpful.
Aint that a shame about Gibson charging so high? Smae with aything that used to be awesome, now it's awesome but you have to pay out the wazoo because of all the hype and inflation and execs and others with astronomical salaries. I am thinking specifically about professional sports. I read the other day that even college basketball teams pay coaches in excess of $2.5 million, enought to pay for a full ride for hundreds of kids at the schools they respresent. Back to guitars and Gibson -- I wonder whether to get an Epiphone and mod it until I get it the way I like it. After all John Lennon played out his Beatle days on an Epi hollowbody. I kick myself every morning 10 times before breakfast for the LP Custom Blackbeauty circa 1975 I sold on Ebay when the kids were little. That's a lesson in life -- just have to figure out what it is.

I've heard the old epi's were good stuff. since 2002 epis are made in Qingdao, China. they may have other factories in asia but not here. I'm not real impressed with Chibsons, so I imagine the new epis aren't much better. I have to buy ragged out gibsons and fix em up cause I can't afford new. working on a ES335 right now; last year I built up a '61 ES125 off ebay. sweet, sweet neck on it.
