My thanks to all of you who replied to my original question on buying the warranty. What I learned is that I needed to go farther to find a dealer who offers certified cars and everything is transparent. Looking at a low mileage Certified 2010 right now. Think this may be the one!
Thanks again to all. I'll check back with more Qs as I learn.

I will gladly pay extra $26/mo for transparency from a dealer. But, not a single penny for an extended warranty.

I hope I did not mislead you with my commentary.
I think it's very possible to buy a good used Prius that may NOT be certified. But just know what you are buying. My only concern when a newer, low mileage Prius is being sold by a Toyota dealer BUT not as a certified vehicle is whether there is some reason it's not being offered as a certified vehicle. Most specifically, no wrecks or rebuilds in it's history.

But it does seem some dealerships simply don't participate in the "Certified" program or make choices to NOT include vehicles in this classification. I don't think this necessarily has to be a deal breaker. Because the "Flip Side" to the whole "Certified Used" program, is while you get a warranty, and a supposed back-ground of checks and refurbishment, you also pay a premium for that classification.

In this day and age, Prius, Toyota dealership, or ANYTHING...I'd always want to see at least a Carfax on any vehicle. My primary concern in questioning the "non-certification" was only to make sure the vehicle hadn't been in wreck before being traded in or acquired by the selling dealership.

If you read the coverage and don't mind the extra $26 monthly payment, go for it. I had the Platinum warranty on the day of purchase of my Prius IV, I already used it once at 90k+ miles for the defective upper glove box damper, warranty covered it. It's $360 parts + labor, the bill came out almost $550. The upper glove box damper failed due to no damping effect...it pops open hard.

2010 was a very long model year. The car may or may not have Safety Connect. The SC panel is by the rear view mirror. It may or may not have a USB port inside the armrest at the back.

I wish you had sold that 2011 privately to me. BTW, how much did they allow you on it?

I would have gladly sold it to you but I did not know you were around at the time. I traded it in on a 2014 Avalon 10 months ago. I think I got $16000 on the trade in. My Prius was garage kept and looked like a new one. Not even one parking lot door ding.
