I don't think this car has a catalytic converter. Easier to pay the fine?

Sounds GREAT! You buy the car for me and I'll test it thoroughly.

A hand built eco car I could actually use to commute where I live.
If I could afford it, I wouldn't need to work though.:cautious:

The article says that about 80 cars will be built, and sold at 1.8 million USD each.
I'm amazed at the R&D that can be done (and still perhaps profit) while putting a street worthy car out for under 150 Million.

Is it me, or it sounds similar to the Honda RLX/NSX design? Except for the transmission and rwd vs awd design.

The article about it that I read mentioned that it has a different battery chemistry then most hybrids. Anyone know what they are referring to?

    It's you.:)
Honda's 3 motor system has 2 motors for the rear wheels for AWD when needed, and the system used on the Fit hybrid to drive the front wheels. It is just V^ instead of the I4 and likely bigger motor and battery. But they both use a double clutch 6 or 7 speed.

This beast uses a single speed transmission.

That is what I said no? I said tranny design decision is different.

But the 2 EV motors and 3rd motor sandwich between tranny and ICE seems to be Honda-ish. The biggest difference being Honda setup as AWD, while Koeni goes to driving everything to the rear wheels.

Oh yeah. In my defense, I don't normally think of single speed boxes as 'transmissions'. Even Honda doesn't like the single speed gears used for the engine in the new Accord hybrid being called a transmission. So I took your transmission as something much more complex than the single speed one. I was originally going to post it as a gear box, but the article called it a 'slushbox' with no other details, and I didn't want to mislead without them, and thus more confusion from me.

In short, and hopefully less confusion, I don't see it as Honda-ish because Honda's system intergrates a double clutch multispeed transmission vs. a simple gear box. It adds a lot more mechanical complexity, but allows Honda to get more out of the smaller motor for a more mass market car. While Honda calls it a separate system, it is really just their one motor one with extra motors for AWD. Like what Toyota does with the HSD and AWD on the NX/RX. And like Toyota, the AWD is asymmetrical. The PHV beast's system requires the three motors, and the two at the wheels are likely inputting power all the time.

I'd be curious to see the service schedule, and where do you take it?

With hyper cars, the technicians usually come to your house to do the service. McLaren, for example, will service the car at your house and it's £25,000-30,000.

At some point I assume the car requires a lift and a full compliment of equipment for any major service. In this case I'd expect the car has to be shipped away for a period of time.

Now I know where regular car dealerships got the idea of selling the car 'cheap,' and making money from maintenance. LOL

I think that this is blurring the definition of "production car" a little bit, but yeah....if I had a few gigabucks in the bank it would be fun to play with one.

I'd love to see if one of these qualifies for an HOV sticker. :)

Perhaps we need an "Other Car" forum labeled "Insanely expensive" or "One can dream". <GRINS>

These super cars in the price range of larger, light aircraft.

Sounds like a good reason to own two... have one available while the other's being serviced. ;)

Na. We need a "Toyota has no new News" forum. So we are forced to talk about other cars. :D
