I received a call from my local dealer a couple weeks ago alerting me of a recall and wanting to schedule me to come in for a fix. I hadn't seen anything posted on here about it so I thought I'd let everyone know in case your dealer isn't as proactive.

    Service Campaigns:
    Title
Limited Service Campaign (LSC) F0B (Phase 1) - Certain 2013 MY Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Certain 2012 - 2013 MY Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius C, and Yaris Vehicles - Front Passenger Supplemental Restraint System
    Status
    Remedy Available

    Description
The front passenger seat assembly is equipped with sensors for the occupant classification system which are used to control the operation of supplemental restraint systems (SRS), including the front passenger airbag. The sensors classify the weight of the occupant and activate or deactivate the front passenger airbag accordingly. Additionally, the sensors are used to detect certain vehicle collisions. Due to the current collision detection thresholds, the system may interpret certain occupant seating usages or road conditions as a rear collision and illuminate the Airbag Warning Light and "AIR BAG OFF" indicator, disabling the front passenger air bag. Toyota dealers will perform the remedy at no charge to vehicle owners.
    Remedy
The remedy for this Special Service Campaign will vary by model and model production dates. Toyota dealers will perform the remedy at no charge to vehicle owners. The remedy will involve replacing the front passenger seat occupant classification system sensors. Additionally, dependent on vehicle production date, in some cases dealers will also replace the Occupant Classification System ECU and install an Owner’s Manual Update sticker. This LSC will be available until December 31, 2017, and will only be available at an authorized Toyota Dealer.

This is a service campaign not a recall. Title of this post is wrong.

I'll admit I don't quite understand this wording.

"Due to the current collision detection thresholds, the system may interpret certain occupant seating usages or road conditions as a rear collision and illuminate the Airbag Warning Light and "AIR BAG OFF" indicator, disabling the front passenger air bag. "

So certain "occupant seating usages"....nice person...Cushion interaction? or road conditions...will make the system falsely think it's a "rear collision"?

OK...so if the system "thinks" it is in a rear collison, why would it react by illuminating the air bag warning light, the air bag off light and disabling the passenger side airbag?

Apologies. I changed the title. When I received the call from the dealer, she told me it was a recall.

Right. It's on Toyota's "Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns" page, but it's listed as a campaign.

Does anyone know where the Occupant Classification System ECU is located? I read that in the "Prius hatchback" it's located under the front passenger seat but couldn't find anything about where its located on the Prius C

I would think the same place. I am not sure. I took mine in yesterday they had to order the parts. I have to wait a week before I can go back.

    Got the letter last week.
Maybe I'll wait a while before taking in ours 2012 C2.
Give the dealership time to get the parts in stock, and learn how to replace the parts without accidental deployment.. ;)

Anyone get the work done yet?

Do they have to remove the front seat to get to the sensor?

I'm not sure what it all entailed. But I would say yes they have to remove the seat to get to the sensor.

Made an appointment today at my local dealer and they said this is only a "phase one" so they don't have the part yet. I told them it's been months and people already got it fixed all over the place in Toy forums. They called around to check and came back saying it's still new to them so they have to call to make sure they have the part and they did have it. It would be three hours to fix. This is the Elmore Toyota in SoCal.

I had my oil changed last weekend at a Toyota dealer and the advisor plugged into their computer system to check if their were any recalls. I told him their was, but I did not have time to do it today. I also asked what was involved in the recall, and he said he would have to check with the mechanic. He never followed up with me on that question. I have a feeling they have yet to do one either, and may not of had the part in house, as he was too willing to let me leave without doing the repair.

Got the car back in less than two hours and have no idea what they did. Only notice a car wash.
