And even though CR hates the C, they had to rate it top of its category in the "cheapest to own" section - in fact it had the cheapest five-year cost of all cars in all categories at $24,000 in Subcompact, the next cheapest being the Honda Civic Hybrid at $28,250 in Compact.
Most expensive was the Mercedes S550 in Luxury Sedan at $120,500.

Not sure about C being the cheapest. Mirage might have beaten it to the punch.

In the used car reliability ratings, pp. 88-97, I see only five cars whose summary "used-car verdict" has a six-year straight flush of full-red-best circles: Toyota Prius, Lexus RX, Lexus LS, Lexus ES (V6), and (the one non-Toyota product) Honda Fit.

For those of us who might not be the Lexus market, that's two choices.

The numbers are straight from the April issue of the magazine.
Five-year cost includes depreciation, fuel cost, loan interest, insurance premiums, sales tax, maintenance and repairs. 12,000 miles per year assumed.

I don't know about that, but they sometimes miss important details.

I must admit that CR's gas mileage for my Avalon Hybrid is the same as I get and I get what I get because I drive it like a regular car

I suspect many people place a great deal of stock in what they have to say. Regardless, I'm always interested in varying reviews from many sources.

no doubt. unfortunately for them, they get mostly bad advice.
