Pretty sure the 2015 uses the same head unit whether you have ATP or not, previous years did not. And yes this is peculiar to the 2015, which has an updated head unit in all trim models.

I agree with you Jim, the problem is not particular to the ATP. It sounds like you have 15v flaky display/radio/gps disease!

Good New!! I got a call from my friendly Toyota service adviser today. He advised me that Toyota engineering folks have acknowledged this flaky disease with the 15v. Apparently the dealer service folks will not be permitted/able to install the fix (presumed software/firmware). He requested the numbers on the bottom right side of my display. He will be calling me when the required specialist will be at the dealer to apply the fix.

We will have to "hang in there" for a while.... This has been my ONLY problem with the 15v and I will be glad to have it resolved.

I too am having the same problem (starting the car again fixes it for a time). I am hoping for a firmware fix for this.
Love the car overall, so I can live with this for a bit longer.

This is fantastic news. I've taken videos of the failure mechanism on my Prius v Wagon. I'll talk to my dealer about it as well. If you have any specific items to reference, it might help me.

You do not have to re-start the car based on my experience so far. Every time the display has frozen for me, re-booting the head unit fixes the problem. If I have an active route in the GPS, it has always resumed.

To re-boot the head unit, just press the power-on button for 3+ seconds. It reboots very quickly. You can do it while driving. CORRECTION - Press the Power-ON button for your head unit (i.e. the same one that is the radio volume control. DO NOT PRESS THE POWER-ON BUTTON FOR THE PRIUS

Has anybody had the screen freeze problem actually repaired yet. My dealer is stonewalling me on the problem saying that unless they see the problem they wont try to fix it or open a case with Toyota -- in spite of all of the other documented reports.

My month old Prius V is demonstrating the same problem. The touch screen works for a few minutes after starting, but then freezes within each application. Today, I got to the phone app and I accidentally called someone and then couldn't hang up!! It always works upon restarting, but not for long. Very annoying.

I've taken videos of my screen being frozen... and how rebooting the head unit fixes the problem. I suspect that will be sufficient to show a problem. When the failure happens, just pull over and take a video of the frozen screen, followed by rebooting the head unit and demonstrating how the screen comes back to life.

I have had the following failure mechanisms so far:
    • Screen freezes with no preceding indication
    • NAV erratically and autonomously zooms out, followed by screen freezing
    • Pandora app changes to a different favorate "station"... followed by screen freezing
    • CD ejects by itself... followed by screen freezing
    • Phone automatically dials one of my 4 favorites as shown in the home screen... followed by screen freezing
One that I have not personally experienced (since I seldom listen to broadcast radio), but I've seen reported:
    • FM Radio switching station... followed you screen freezing
One mode that I have used a lot, but never had a failure:
    • Using XM Radio so far has been flawless. I've never had the head unit automatically switch XM stations. However, the first failure above (screen freezing) does occur even when using the XM radio.
The phone dialing error happened to me today for the first time. My phone was secured in a mount, and nothing touched the phone. At first I thought that my wife might be calling me... but it ended up that my Prius decided to call her all by itself.

My v touch screen is a hell of a lot more reliable and responsive than my Apple 5C iPhone!

You probably wouldn't say that if you had a 2015 Prius v Wagon. ;)

We have this problem everyday when temps are below ~5DegC and lasts about 1 minute. The dealer was useless as normal. That and the tyre wear are the only thing preventing a perfect score. See YouTube link below.

3/6/15 UPDATE. My friendly Toyota dealer called to report they now have a new software fix for the problem and I had it installed quickly. So far, so good - but it has only been 2 days. Previously the dealer had stated the fix had to applied by a "regional specialist". The requirement was waived as the dealer was able to apply the fix in less than 30 minutes. Keeping my fingers crossed in Florida!!!

    FLbill,

Do you have any specific repair code or anything else specific that will help me with my dealer? I will be bringing my car in for its 1000 mile service check in about a week and would like to get this fixed on that trip. I'd prefer to not get the "cold blank stare" from the repair department when I request this.

    Hi Jim,

I would suggest your dealer refer to my technical case # 150550025.

    Good Luck!
    Bill.

BTW. My 15v also has had a recall regarding the seat sensor for the air bags. Just a s/w update. IT seems like most of the fixes are s/w???

Bill, thanks a lot. Exactly what I seem to need. I'm going to make an appointment later today for this weekend or early next week.

3/13/15 UPDATE. Sorry to report the display STILL freezes up when listening to the radio (satellite, fm, etc.). I talked with dealer today and he said he would pursue getting toyota to authorize replacement of the "head unit"

Bummer... I was hoping the software update worked. This morning on a 90 mile drive, it froze twice while I was using Pandora. Both times, the CD ejected, then head unit froze. Note that I was not listening to the CD... just Pandora using Entune and my iPhone 6 Plus.

I bought a new 2015 Prius V Four, less than a week ago, and I am also having problems with the Navigation system, it started to be unresponsive to the touch on the second day, the physical buttons work okay so the screen is not frozen, it is just unresponsive to the touch, the only way to fix the problem is to press the power button off and then on. I tried the suggestion of pressing the Power button for 3+ seconds when the car was running and I did that in a zone where I did not have any cars behind but the car stopped completely so do not try that solution while driving. I am contacting my dealer to see what solution they have to this problem. By the way, when I had this problem my iphone was connected via Bluetooth but not via USB.

NO NO NO.... you pushed the wrong power button. Press the power button for the head unit and DO NOT PUSH THE POWER BUTTON FOR THE THE PRIUS). This is the same button that is the volume control for your radio. (I've update my previous post with these same instructions)

Also... when we say the screen is frozen, it is exactly as you describe. The actual screen itself is frozen (i.e.: touch does not work). However, the buttons to each side of the screen continue to work properly.
