2015 Prius C three. One week old.

I have a 32 GB jump drive (Kingston brand) with MP3 files on it. It recognizes it, all the files on it and plays it well.
But... When I turn off the vehicle and start again the music playback reverts to repeating the last file played during the previous trip. It does this even if I try to forward to the next song, it stays on that last song repeating it. The RND (random) selection button is lit up at this point.
I can get it to return to random play by 1. selecting the music app to full screen 2. Select Browse 3. sort by song - Then selecting any song and from there on it plays random files.

The real problem is that this takes time and on a trip such as a four minute drive to lunch and then the four minute return trip to work I either have to go through that process twice or I listen to the same song four times. The Browse process takes a bit of time and to be honest I am pulling out of the parking lot before it is done so distracted driving can come into play.

I have tried different jump drives, moving the files into and out of folders and limiting the folder content sizes to under 200 songs each. I have taken the problem to the dealer and they are stumped, except for the guy who said I just need to live with it...
Thank you for any help or advice.

Got a contact back from Toyota. They have no idea. Suggest I take it to the dealer for a "Bluetooth diagnostic". The only question they asked regarding the jump drive was if it is a 2.0 or 3.0 USB drive. They did suggest that I should use Bluetooth instead of a USB drive.

I use a SanDisc Cruzer Fit, also 32GB, in my C for my main music source. No matter where a song might be when I turn the car off, it starts up exactly where it left off when I restart. If yours is restarting a song from the beginning, when you have turned off the car in the middle of the song, that would seem to be odd behavior. But I have never compared notes with any other C owner about the USB song behavior, so I can't say for sure. If my experience is the norm, then it would appear you have a defective unit or installation. Whatever normally causes the unit to remember the last instruction before the car is turned off is malfunctioning.

Whoever you spoke to at Toyota is either a fool or he misunderstood the problem. A "Bluetooth diagnostic" for a USB/software/hardware issue? I don't think so. And the other guy who suggested using Bluetooth instead of USB didn't have a clue either.

Update: The problem persists. I got some attention to it as we went in to test drive a vehicle for my daughter and my comment that "I'm not buying another Toyota until the one I just bought works properly" got sales to step up. A tech came out and looked at it while we test drove a Scion TC. Upon returning he announced that it is indeed "messed up". A service appointment is now scheduled.
