Help! Battery replacement options

    I just returned from the toyota dealer who informed me that the hybrid battery needs to be replaced for $3200.00, and that it may need a new brake actuator as well...for an additional $2700.00.....I've seen stories on the web about places that will replace just the bad cells on the battery....does anyone have experience with this? I love my 2005 prius, and I only have 68,000.00 miles on it. Thanks in advance for your reply

    welcome! check out dorman batteries. i would advise you to look around, and search here, for hybrid shoppes in your area. you might try tampaprius.com, to see if he can advise you. your best bet on the brake actuator is to find a mech. who will install a salvage unit. all the best.(y)

    My battery failed. $1600 delivered the next day. Installed in 15 minutes in my driveway. 36 month warranty. I purchased it on eBay from the seller "highvoltagesolutionz-2013".

    wow, 15 minutes? that's excellent! what are you using the old battery for?

    I would either keep your existing battery and repair it or buy a new Toyota battery. The other options involve rebuilt/reconditioned batteries that are probably no better than the one you have (once yours is fixed) unless they consist of Gen 3 modules.
