I use a Android and I have the same problem.
Screen goes unresponsive, even while I was being shown the car right after the purchase it locked up. But then fixed itself on restart. Really annoying I've only driven the car twice so far.

I just purchase my second prius in the past 5 years, this time went for the prius v trim 5 package. What a mistake. Having the same issue with the touch-screen immediately and would love to return the car. After first trip to the Melbourne, FL dealer I was told there was nothing they could do since I could not reproduce the screen-lockup at well. As soon as I left the dealer within the first two miles, screen lockup. I immediately returned to the dealer and had the service consultant view the problem first hand and take a couple of pictures. It's been a couple weeks and another 5 or 10 screen lockup and I call again to set an appointment. They informed me there was nothing they could or would do to fix the issue unless they could reproduce the problem themselves. Of course that will never happen. I agree from the comments in the thread that it's most likely a software bug but to inform the customer to just live with it is not a very good answer either. Toyota at least needs to admit they have an issue that the dealer can inform the owners when there is a fix available. Also love my 32.8 mpg, not, my standard prius got at least 42 mpg without having the touch-screen lockups.

Start posting videos of the screen lockup on YouTube, then call Toyota corporate service and tell them you need their help to solve the problem so you can remove the videos from YouTube. Or be nice and call them first to find out if they know anything about this problem and if they don't know about it you can offer to post some videos to help them out.

This started happening after the first week for us as well. Dealer was able to reproduce and replaced the head unit. Issue occurred again the next day and took it back in. Dealer said Toyota engineers recommended that they change the "Extension Module" and that seems to have fixed "the frozen touch screen " issue (been a week now).

However I noticed that the unit was noticiably slow (especially the 4 speed dial buttons on the home screen to show up after car is started) compared to what it was prior to the extension module replacement. So took it back in last night and compared to a 2015 Camry with Entune to show dealer what it used to be before the replacement. Dealer agreed that there seems to be an issue and has my car overnight. Sid they have to work with Toyota engineers.

Seems like I have been driving a rental more than the Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) :(

Thanks for the correction, I did press the Main Power Unit for 3 seconds and my car stopped after few seconds, it was in a non-congested area, no cars behind.

Thanks for the correction. By the way, I disconnected the car from the ToyotaEntune app in my iphone and the screen has not frozen to the touch for several days.

it appears as if Toyota still doesnt have a fix for this. Has anybody got a lasting fix yet? Did replacing the head solve the problem?

Replacing the head unit did not work for me. Replacing the extension module did work...been a couple of weeks now without the touch screen freezing up on me.

I am waiting for a new "head unit" to arrive. I am curious about the "extension module" you mentioned. Do you have any information that I could provide my dealer???

    Thanks,
    Bill.

Isn't there some evidence that people having this problem are using Entune with it connected to their cell phone? Even if you're not actively in one of the Entune apps at the time, the connection is always live. If you're having lockup issues, and are using Entune linked to your cell phone, try eliminating that link and see if the problem still happens.

The radio has been replaced but the freezing problem is still present. I guess a new firmware will eventually dix the problem.

I have the flaky v15 screen freezing problem without the cell phone OR Entune. It affects the audio(am, fm, sat.) and GPS.

I have a new 2015 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) four. Touch screen for Nav/radio/media/backup camera etc. The car had less than 500 miles when the problems started. As with others in this thread, the screen stops responding to touch inputs, in my case after about 20 minutes of driving. This occurs with or without a smartphone in the car. Interestingly it looses sensitivity on the right hand side of the screen first and slowly the loss of sensitivity spreads across the whole screen. I have videoed this and shown it to the dealer who agrees that there is obviously something wrong. I have contacted Toyota customer service who is aware there is a problem but is noncommittal about the root cause - hardware vs software. They told me this component is actually made by Panasonic and is on back order with no known date of delivery. The dealer also says they have no idea when the part will be available. The car therefore could be without use of these functions for weeks or months. Based on my call to Toyota customer service, depending on circumstances they will provide some compensation for your troubles.

Thank you for the great write up Kearbike. I like the new observation of right to left touch loss. Make sure Toyota knows about this potentially important detail. I'm going to start searching YouTube for your (and other's) videos of the problem.

Don't forget the workaround to press and hold the head unit power button to reset it.

Sorry but I have not posted a video on YouTube. Unfortunately, when you call customer service at Toyota, or any large company you are talking to an employee who is nontechnical and very far removed from their engineers, who most likely are Japanese. I doubt the subtleties of touch screen failure from left to right ever make it to the folks who actually design and diagnose problems. I suspect when they get reports from consumers the engineers start testing and trying to reproduce failures and themselves will identify the subtle symptoms and hopefully eventually the root cause. How do I know this. My son is an outsource components quality control engineer at a very large international firm based here in the USA. He often deals with similar issues from Asian and other suppliers.

Hello all. I too have a new 2015 Prius v four with the touch screen for Nav/radio/media/backup camera etc. and I am experiencing the same problems. Its pretty frustrating. It almost always happens when you are pressing/typing a lot (such as putting in an address for GPS). When it freezes up, I just press and hold the power button (to the radio - not the start) for 3 seconds and it reboots and then will work fine... for a while. I've been meaning to call Toyota about this. It sounds like I'll probably just get the run-around....
Anyone have any other thoughts and/or ideas to fix this?

The more voices we get on record at toyota corporation the more they will take the problem serious.

So I say call toyota and get a reference number to track the problem until solved, if possible.

I have this problem...I'm also a computer programmer and have worked many years in the field. This is not temperature, not iphone, not Entune...my best guess is that the part of the software that wants you not to use the touchscreen while driving has taken over. My 2015 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v) started with this issue almost right away and was difficult to reproduce on demand. NOW, I can have it happen after 5 minutes of driving. All you have to do is to USE the touchscreen a bit. There are other issues like it trying to change screen on it's own.
The dealer did a service-bay upgrade that seemed like it fixed it for a hot minute. I'm having a hard time explaining to my wife that going to the dealer and raising hell probably won't get it fixed quickly. My thinking is that all of the new units are bad and the fix doesn't exist yet, so leaving it at the dealer waiting for a new headunit may not make any difference. I'm going back tomorrow with all of this in the event that there is now a techinical bulletin...on my last visit, I was the first person to ever report this problem to them...
Anybody looking for a quick fix: it does it without a phone in the car at all, it does it in warm weather, it will do it after 5 minutes of driving...a guaranteed way to make it happen is to try to find a destination in the NAV....all the while, all of the buttons work and the voice feature works...I"m thinking software and a new firmware...something that hasn't been written yet....

I'm currently having the same problem with the touch screen. I'm at the dealership right now, getting the same song and dance. I showed him your reference number and he said he can't do anything with that. He said he needs a "TSB number" in order to look it up.

Just tell him: No problem, I'll let you give me a loaner till you have a straight answer for me. They won't issue a TSB till they actually have a solution.

I have been dealing with this problem since 1/2/2015 and am now getting very frustrated! First Toyota fails to acknowledge a problem exists, then finally says that it is Panasonic"s problem - and there is no fix available (or replacement parts). I don't really care about Panasonic, I bought a Toyota product and Toyota IS responsible for that product (this responsibility includes there chosen providers). A customer who buys a car with a $36k sticker should not have to wait OVER 3 months for a problem to be fixed! I love the car, however, I am very near the next step - obtaining legal advice/remedy...

BTW, Toyota customer service doesn't appear to provide any value add. They call the dealer to get updates and offer to call me every 10-14 days with no-action updates. They also seem to want to shift blame for this issue to the dealer - which could not be more inaccurate. The dealer has done everything is it's power to help me. WAKE UP TOYOTA!!!!
