    Hi everyone,

I am in the process of replacing my EP20 after 57k miles. I was told by the Bridgestone customer service that gave me the following information for the 195/65/15 91H that I need:

    -EP422
    Threadwear 480
    Temp A

    -EP 422 Plus
    Threadwear 600
    Temperature A

Looks like the threadwear is a no brainer and price was the same for both at Costco and wanted to see if anyone here had any feedback. Thanks in advance and God Bless!

I am in the same boat and with the rebate @ Costco I will likely purchase one of the two. There is a good thread on here about nearly all tires. Seems like the prevailing attitude towards these tires is middle of the road. I will try to find the thread...
    God bless you!

They also have turanza serenity for about same price which provides much better comfort and quietness, 80k miles warranty. Excellent tire rack review

EP422 plus is replacement for EP422. And the EP422 is being discontinued, I believe. Based solely on that, and the better tread wear indication, if the price is the same I'd get the plus version.

Take a look at both on Tirerack, the tread pattern is a bit different, think the new one tread looks a little less "blocky", if that makes any sense. There's no real feedback or reviews yet, they're so new.

Interesting, thanks for bringing that up. Strangely enough the US version thread wear is 640 and the MX version is 540. Not sure it's a typo. I will stop by Costco tomorrow to see which version they carry. One more thing to research...lol

Not an LRR tire though. Your mpg will be less.

Purchased 4 Ecopia EP422 Plus in Costco since their price was $408.95 out the door with instant $70 Bridgestone rebate compared to 520+ in Firestone after the $70 Bridgestone mail-in-rebate (not instant rebate like Costco). Both prices include balancing, rotation and roadside for the life of the tire for its original owner. This tire has a 640 thread wear, Traction A and Temperature A (great opportunity to test it with our TX heat). I will post update in the near future about the this tire. Appreciate everyone's helpful input. Thanks and God Bless!

^That instant rebate at Costco also reduces the sales tax. And saves a stamp. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong. According to Tire rack this Tire has LRR technology.
Check the specs out and you'll see.

According to Bridgestone's website, their Ecopia line is their fuel savings tires.

But according to Tire Rack they are LRR:

I think so, but I will post soon about that. I was pouring hard when I had them installed and have not done too much driving this weekend. Costco inflate with nitrogen to vehicle specs and I've noticed people here with different opinions and inflation preference. I will ride with the specs and maybe increase later to compare. Thanks and God Bless!

If you read to the end of the article there's an explanation that the 20/400 increase in mpg is comparing to Firestone FR710, and the latter is noted to not be LRR.

When the author refers to an engine as a "ICE gas" I kinda glazed over, lost interest.

I'd guess (and hope) it's rolling resistance is gonna be similar to its predecessor.

I just bought the same tires. I had the ep20s. They were noisy and low tread at 36,000. I have put 150 mile on the 422 plus so far and have increased my millage from 43 to 48. But I have not put more air in tires yet. They say max of 40 psi and door jam says 35,33 so tomorrow I will be adding air. So far I love them. Ride is quite and smooth but the old tires were wore down.

Trying to post from Kindle fire so I may look crazy. Anyway, I paid 585.00 before discount and 525. Before rebates. Had to get them at hibdons tires and paid 400 for tires and rest was warranty and bs but after all that it will be 385. I checked the tire, it said 44 max but never put over 40. Look like a great tire.

"Of course, the real feature people look for in a tire of this type is just how much better its low rolling-resistance build can help save cash at the pump. In that light, Bridgestone is claiming 30 more kilometres per tank, thanks to a reduction in rolling resistance over the standard EP422 by 35% when using 215-width tires that are 16” in diameter."

I think most any tire will get noiser as it wears, and it sneaks up on you, so you forget: they too were pretty quiet when new. Anyway: if you're going from worn EP20 to EP422 plus AND seeing an increase in mpg, that's very good news. I'm a little incredulous though, that increase is so good it's maybe too small a sample. But still bodes good.

Regarding air pressures, I'm really starting to back off, well in attitude anyway. I've got the 215/45R17 OEM's, and they are harsher ride from the get go, and doubly so once you start raising pressures. The door jamb sticker says 33/32 (front/rear) for them. I've been running them at 36 all around, but thinking to back down, almost to the sticker values.

And yeah I know: 36 sounds low, but these are the low profiles. I use 195/65R15 snows in winter, and they're more forgiving going over bumps, even at 42~44.

It seems to me the give in a tire is an overlooked part of the suspension system. The trade-off with higher pressures is more load on the suspension.
