Energy Saver A/S Tires - finally !

    I checked with Sam's Club a couple of weeks ago and felt like I had won the lottery. They had Michelin tires on sale with the $70 rebate that Sam's gives you at the register. They also had the Energy Saver A/S tires in stock. So I had them mounted this morning. I will update this thread with the mpg info after giving the tires time to break in.

    When I needed to replace the OEM Yokohama's at 32,000 miles the Energy Saver A/S were not available at Sam's and were hard to find. So I installed the Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires. Great improvement over comfort, handling, and noise. I would recommend these tires to anyone looking for these features. BUT I lost 4-5 mpg. At the end of the life of the tires I gained back the lost mpg minus about 1 mpg. The tires had gotten noisy as the tread wore down like all tires. I was ready for a LRR tire again and an increase in mpg.

    I have already noticed a big decrease in tire noise with the new tire tread on the ground as expected. So glad to finally have a set of ES A/S on my car.

    We have ours at 40 psi, good mpg but I also notice they whine (?) a bit when running across finely grooved pavement. But overall no complaints so good luck on yours!
    When we bought them at Costco they came with a Michellin road-side assistance warrantee, so make sure you get that paperwork and have it explained to you, assuming that also applies to Sam's sales.

    I have mine at 40/38. Sam's provides Road Hazard Warranty including roadside assistance. I have been dealing with Sam' s for years and fortunately have never needed roadside assistance.

    One time when I was having a vibration on a tire that I could not pinpoint, Sam's replaced all four tires when I objected to having to come in and change one tire at a time.

    I have a grooved bridge I cross every day going to work. I will have to listen for a whine.

    They get better after break in but even without they are usually better than the ones they replace

    How much more milage do you get with the Energy Savers or are they just better at maintaining stock mpg?

    They are 50-60I tires, depending on how bold you are willing to run them.

    And while they have decent wet traction, they are mostly picked for exceptional MPG

    and less road noise. they probably won't increase your oem mpg's.

    I am on my first full tank since installing the tires. I am already beginning to see mpg levels that I have not seen since the OEM Yokohamas and the tires have not had time to break in yet!

    I go over a bridge with a metal grate with vertical runners spaced close together, similar to grooved pavement. No whine but these tires wander more than most other tires I have used in the past. Only complaint so far.

    40/38 is as high as I will run them. 44 rated.

    I will give it a try. I tried this on my other tires. Negligible impact to mpg and too hard of a ride.

    That's why I think this "break in" thing is (mostly) tire shop smoke-and-mirrors. Some tires have good rolling resistance, and they have it from the outset.

    Other tires have so-so rolling resistance, and when you complain: the shop tells you they need to "break-in". So you go away (and that's problem solved for tire shop), and try harder, wring a bit more mpg out of them, convince yourself they're breaking in.

    The important part is the 4-5psl difference btw front and rear. It creates issues if rear too stiff
