HomeLink mirror seems loose

    I just got a 2006 prius and am going through and correcting all of the small issues I am finding. One is,
    I cannot seem to figure out how to get the homelink rear view mirror to attach solidly to the windshield. It almost feels like the metal mount is not the right one for the mirror, or something is worn out...

    Is there a trick here or is this a common issue?

    You can tighten it. There is a small hex type screw next to the mount

    Ok I tried this and the hex screw tightens all the way but somehow the mirror still wobbles.. I've tried reseating the mirror on the mount but to no avail... I'll try to take a video

    Does your windshield have toyota stamp on the bottom left corner?

    You and your brilliant troubleshooting tests.. You must be Sherlock incarnate.

    No, of course it doesn't have a Toyota logo.
    So, I have a replaced windshield with some generic mount... Is there an easy way to get the right mount?

    1. You can check if toyota sells the part.
    2. Check with local windshield shops and see if you can get one off the broken windshields they get back. They may charge you a few bucks to fit it on.

    Is the HomeLink mount the same as the standard Prius mirror mount?

    I think so, we have members that have changed their mirrors to homelink mirrors and there is no mention the mounts fit differently

    I'm wondering if the hex screw is the problem right now. If the screw is too long or too short, that could be the problem

    So, I actually have a 2005 prius withOUT homelink. My girlfriend just got home so I took off her mirror and put mine on and it seems to fit way more snuggly.

    However, I measured them and they both seem to be generally the same dimensions overall, so I'm thinking there some kind of subtle difference between the shape of them. I like your idea of getting one from a windshield repair company..

    I spoke to a few windshield places today. One told me that the process for removing a bracket from a windshield requires the windshield to be heated from the outside to soften up the adhesive, and said that there is a chance for the glass to crack/break as a result. Doesn't seem like a risk that is worth the payoff of having a less wobbly mirror..

    He recommended getting a windshield bracket adapter -- which can be found at autoparts stores. I will try this and report back if it works in case anyone else ever runs into this issue.

    Maybe you can try Xliderider's suggestion on a shim......

    Worse comes to worst, you can probably get the windshield replace by your insurance company for free.......it's covered under most policies in case of "accidental" cracks.

    I will try to shim it. Theres no shim product, I am assuming -- just DIY something up, right?

    If that doesnt work.... maybe I will take the risk (after checking with my insurance company on windshield replacement...)

    The accidental cracks normally come from flying rocks on the highway. A thin piece of metal can be used......just thinking a cut up piece of soda can might work.

    Nothing like an excuse to pop a tab lol. (y)

    Cut a thin strip, and bend it like an inverted U, if that's too much, then just make it an L, and shim one side.
