That would not work as Toyota would see a discrepancy with the module serial numbers. Nice try, though.

So you keep saying, but could explain how you know or otherwise share with the rest of us how you back your claim?
You mean "I couldn't care less"

    Kinglew,

Have you ever purchased a hybrid battery from Toyota?
    Ever seen one in person?

I have. I have purchased and handled many, as well as used and reconditioned batteries.

There is definitely a difference. The Toyota battery is pristine, matching serial numbers, brand new in every way. NOT RECONDITIONED

    STOP SPREADING FALSE BASELESS RUMORS!

Here are some pictures of a brand new battery I just purchased from Toyota today.

Serial numbers are sequential. Modules are B5.

At some point in 2007 Toyota started putting B2 on the modules, 2010 gen3s have B3 stamped on them. New batteries used to have B4 on them. This is the first one I have seen with B5.

The last picture is the new battery next to a used one.

That is when they improved the intra-module connections to lower the series resistance.
Those were rated at 130 amp peak current whereas the earlier ones were limited to 100 amps.
Panasonic continues to improve the modules.

so with this information, the 2008-2009 Gen2 modules should last longer than the earlier years?

I have never mixed B2, with non B2 modules as I assume they would not work well with each other. Similarily B3 , B4 and B5's should not be mixed?

Also interested in battery difference within the same model generation (gen 2) my 2005 has a 2008 battery in it. My 2005 hv battery never failed after 238,000 but there was a deal to good to pass up. :)

I wouldn't say I know nothing about batteries, but I will concede I don't know everything about batteries. Hence my challenge to you to offer us some sort of backing for the claim you are making. If you don't have any, just say so. It is just that I like to make informed decisions on facts not urban legends.

Way to go, personally attack the questioner! Usual method of defence for a person with no substance to their claims.

Without corroboration your statement is just a claim, not a fact.

I have asked directly three times now how you know Toyota's practices are what you claim and so far you have avoided answering, just merely deflecting with irrelevant trivia.

I will not ask again, either put forward some sort of evidence to back your claim, or stop making the statement.

I think the best you've come up with is that you once opened a pack you claimed was installed by Toyota. Having opened one battery pack and seen something that you think indicates the pack was rebuilt is not evidence. For all we know Toyota was asked to install a refurb pack by the customer.

If I was the cynical/suspicious type, my conclusion would be that you have no proof. You are in fact someone who has an interest in battery re-manufacture/re-build and are simply spreading rumours to protect your patch.

I will say no more on the subject.

    Amazing, the power of denial.

Please, contact any of the law firms that sued Toyota over the sudden acceleration issue/probe. These law firms are in the business to get money for themselves and their client(s). You being the initiating plaintiff, stand to become a very wealthy individual, if the law firm finds your accusations to be true. Your suit would become a Class Action, on behalf of all Prius owners who paid for a replacement NEW HV Battery, which you believe to always have been a used/rebuilt/refurbished/reconditioned HV Battery.

Here's an old Reuter's article about the sudden acceleration issue, with some big law firms listed.
Suing Toyota? Take a number and get in line| Reuters
These firms would be a great place for you to start your process of seeking vindication and financial reward.

Please, please, please, please, make that phone call to a law firm. Start your process for vindication and financial reward! Please report your progress and the findings from the law firm. However, you may not like what the law firm finds.

So what was it about these Toyota installed replacement batteries that caused you to have to open them up? A bit of a back story would also be helpful.

What made you think your sister's and neighbour's batteries were recycled and not new?

Did they look different to the photos posted by TampaPrius?
