anyone have this issue before? i bought a second hand 2012 prius v with 70k mileage on it from an official toyota dealer. i was stopped at a red light and suddenly the skidding light went on. i didnt think much of it until i wanted to move, and the car didnt! i immediately power'd off and on, and it did work right away (without the skidding light) so i'm not sure how serious this issue is. but i wouldnt want my car to do this IF i was moving. so far, i'm unable to re-create this.

i took it to a dealer and asked if there was any recall on this issue and they said there isn't. it seems like there is a software issue just like this with OLDER prius, but not my model.

anyone have similar issue with the prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon)

    thanks!

Are you sure you didn't activate the hill start assist feature? It sure sounds like you did.

If you press the brake, then press the brake pedal down firmly, you activate the hill start assist. There will be a beep and the ABS or traction control light will flash (orange light) on the dashboard. Then when you let off the brake, the car will hold the car from rolling till you press the gas pedal. It's designed to keep the car from rolling backward when you take your foot off the brake pedal and move it to the gas pedal.

Consult your owner's manual to read about it.

See page 256 in this pdf: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM47784U/pdf/sec_02-04.pdf

Looks like a definite case of not reading the manual.

It might look like a manual for a car is for idiots; any 5 year old could work out where the lights and wiper controls are. But the manual also includes information on hidden gems specific to the car/model such as Hill Start Assist, how to switch from mph to kph, how to turn the brightness of your display up and down etc.

A quick flick through and you could find all sorts of usful info. (y)

Manuals are inevitably the only mint OEM parts on any used car.
