What's so bad about using two jacks on the same side, as long as they're recommending keeping the tires on the same side anyway? That's easy and puts less stress on the the jacks and jacking points than lifting the front alone from the designated point.

Don't forget to apply the parking brake and chock wheels on the other side, since the car can roll in Park with one front wheel lifted.

He was referring to the car up on ramps on the same side. You know, weight of the car on the wheels, on the ramps... Start taking off lugnuts...

I was responding to the original issue in the first post of the thread, not to that joke.

The OP was asking if it's ok to use a single jack, about midway along the pinch weld.

One jack does not seem good, for a one sided lift. With two jacks, seems a lot of work, raise one a bit, then the other, putting torsion on the frame, all the way up. And then you get to go around the other side, do it all again.

I raise the whole thing and drop it on safety stands, spring and fall. Works, uses proscribed jack points. I'm switching between all seasons and snows, so maybe a bit different.

Bisco's either pulling everybody's leg, or else will have a eureka moment.

    I've been there.

I gave up on ramps in the '80's. Especially in the close quarters of a typical garage, too stressful. That said, it's a heady thought: picture a car going up four ramps at once.

I'd equate that with going for a drive on four temporary spares. Someone's done the latter, with a Mercedes?

One jack at one end in the usual way puts more torsion on the "frame" than using jacks at front and rear jacking points simultaneously---at least if one bothered to raise them together as you describe. Or one could raise one end, then the other end, in which case the second lift will be much easier than normal.

"Proscribed jack points"?!! My dictonary says "proscribe" means "to condemn or prohibit as dangerous." I'd avoid those points.

Coincidentally, I rotated my tires this afternoon, approximately on Toyota's schedule. There was little or no need to do so, but I don't wanna get caught neglecting PREscribed maintenance.

Yeah, I chock the rear, raise the front, put in front safety stands. Then raise the rear, put in two more safety stands. Sorry for the confusing description.
