So three days ago my girlfriend call me that some put a ding on the door to our new car. It looks like someone shopping cart did it.
    5558.jpeg
so I had to get it fix because it bothered me when I walk up to the car and that's all I see. I called a paintless dent remover to go tomorrow to fix the dent.
    5661.jpeg

so I call to cancel the repair because I don't see the ding on the car door anymore....haha

My girlfriend called to tell me this morning. She was sideswiped by a shuttle van. It look like the guy was texting and swerved over and he didn't corrected the van in time and sideswipe our car. We haven't received our license plate yet...lmao

Importantly everyone is ok. We got a police report. Their insurance should pay for the fix.

Looks like they got the mirror too and it has some electronics exposed. That needs to be fixed before water gets into the wiring and motor.
You'll be surprised how much that costs to fix. My wife scraped a hedge branch - really old and big one and it got the passenger mirror and scraped the front and both door panels - and the repair was over $4500!

I know the repair is going to be expensive. I use to work for a auto body repair shop. I know with a price of paint and labor cast how a days iscrazy expensive. The guy don't want for her to call the cops and said he would pay for it and we don't have to go through his work insurance. The guy said it looks like the damage is minor. I told her to tell him no way to the guy.

Look at the bright side, you have the first ding and can stop sweating about it.

I had a college friend whose uncle took a ball peen hammer to the bumper of his brand new car so that he could get the first dent over with and enjoy ownership.

That sucks. I'm still waiting for my first ding. Two months and nothing yet. I realize that by saying that, I'll probably total it tomorrow.

Just FYI the second bump while not as bad as the first bump still sucks...

Never thought I'd say this, but I was hit by a windshield of a golf cart on the highway is morning.

There was a truck hauling 3 golf carts on the highway at 65 MPH, hit a bump and the plexiglass windshield of one popped out and landed in front of me. It broke into several pieces and thankfully I was able to slow down and avoid most of the big pieces. But one smaller chunk bounced and hit my bumper and gouged the paint, left aanother 4in mark on the clear bra. Could have been much worse.

Thankfully the truck had a big sign on the back and I was able to call them and they will take care of it. $1k in damages- fix and repaint bumper then add the clear bra, which is half that cost.

I read this thread a couple weeks ago and thought to myself "ouch! That has to suck!"

Fast forward to today and about a week ago when I was driving down state to take care of my dad who was having surgery, it was 2am and I was not even a mile away from the house, I come around a curve in the road at about 48mph and before I could even notice it from the darkness, BAM! I hit a semi truck tire. Was it laying down flat? Of course not. It was standing straight up. Waiting for me. Menacingly.

It sounded awful as it went under the car. I stopped in the middle of the road and put my hazards on, backed up and looked through my back-up camera to confirm it was actually a tire I hit. Yep. So I get to my dads and pull into the garage and check out underneath the car and I see the bottom of the front bumper has the most ever so slight bulge in it. You can't even see it unless the light hits it the right way. At the very bottom of the bumper, it scraped some paint off, probably two inches in length. It also cracked the plastic shield underneath the car.

Luckily, I have comprehensive insurance and I don't have to pay the deductible, but I got the estimate done today from a reputable Toyota certified body shop. $775 bucks. They said they're going to repair the slight bulge and repaint the bumper, and replace the plastic shield. I'm a bit skeptical if the bumper will come out okay, but whatever. If I don't like it, I'll just keep taking it back.

    Just hit 1,400 miles.

If you need to pretty much lie on the ground and use a strong light to see the scrapes, they're just character.

Anyone who parks up against those parking curbs will have bumpers and shields with "character".

Sorry to hear about the dings and dents. At 81k miles, they do accumulate. You can either let them build up, or pay $$$$ each time it happens. I've opted for the former.

That said, yes, get the mirror and damage fixed when the insurance is willing and able.

I don't sweat dings too much but I do try to park away from other cars, usually at the edges of a parking lot. I'm happy to let the obese bozos annoy each other.

You could always install those "curb feelers" (yes, they still sell them), and put them on your Prius, but I think most of us would rather live with the scuff marks than the sheer ugly those things add to anything they are mounted upon.
