I'm sure everyone is very happy for you.

Unless you have tools (or a good friend who will lend you tools), automotive know-how (or a good friend who will help extensively), a trust fund, and strong desire for a possible bottomless project car, PLEASE don't buy a salvage.

OP has stated earlier that he/she will never go down the salvage route again after this experience.

Glad you made it through, I bet you will be great with the car.
Hey, you are driving a very low mileage car.

In this case, I believed all the problems were caused by the first mechanic. Treating a misfire by removing the patients heart (this being the prius engine and transmission).

In removing the heart, damaged the arteries (harness and pully). Then charged full price for the fixing the damage.

today I was just reading what the first mechanic wrote about the work he did. He said the part re placed was worn out and he could not figure out why at the low mileage of the car. I wonder if when the car was rebuilt with 2006 side doors if that part was from the 2006 car. It does look like he or the man working under him damaged the engine harness. He has been very very nice to me since then and I wonder if it is a little guilt eating at him. most important it is over now and fixed

If it were me, Given your experience, I would avoid that mechanic like the plague. Might be competent or very competent with conventional cars only. Obviously knows very little about Prius'; learns by making mistakes at the customers expense.

Steve at Autobeyours, in Indiana, on the other hand, is a Prius Whisperer; in him you can trust as you know and experienced first hand. Maybe ask Steve if he knows any competent Prius mechanics in/near Detroit?
