If the heater is working and there are no warning lights, you could wait till you get one and have it fine "possibly" covered under warranty.

But you don't need to spend money to diagnose this problem, it's the valve noise

Should I still try the radiator coolant thing? Also, I have realized that the noise varies...meaning pattern changes speed / duration etc.

If I sit in my car long enough with the engine on....it eventually goes away then once I start driving it comes back. I didn't notice before but now I can hear it in the background despite of my music while I drive.

since you have the coolant already, yes open the radiator cap and make sure it's full. Do this in the morning so your engine won't be hot.

I would think the repair would be around $500, if you wish to take this up with Toyota.

Guess what Mr.JC91006... I brought my car in for Oil Change (which is due) and the service advisor found out that there are (2) pending re-calls that I wasn't aware of since I stopped going into the dealership and I am not active on re-call reports. I wanted them to take a look at the re-calls which were water pump related to see if my car is effected; See below

    - Recall ID # 95167 - HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM: INVERTER

So I got a call from Toyota and it was a call asking for my permission to change out the water pump / belt which was causing the noise and one of the re-calls listed above is also being fixed. On top of all this, he said that my brake pad was at 1mm so I am getting that changed out also. They quoted me $770 + 15% discount (coupon). I am eating that up this time but I think I will do further research for my transmission fluid maintenance prior to the due time.

Thank you again everyone who participated in this conversation and I will keep ya'll updated :)

That sound is not caused by the engine water pump and belt. When you pick up the car, have them sign a paper stating if that is not that cause, they'll rediagnose the problem and fix it at no charge. They are adding coolant when this repair is done, same thing you were going to do to possibly fix the problem

$770 for that water pump and belt is highway robbery. The pump cost $65 and takes an hour to replace. Most dealers charge under $500 for that service and that's expensive!

for 1 65 buck part, 1 hour labor, 5 minutes to stick on a brake peddle albeit, they'll prob stick ya 25 bucks for $1 rubber and charge ya 1/2 hour to do it too. When you pick up your car, before paying for the heist, wear a body armored protective suit, just incase they shoot while robbing you. [wink]

They most likely charge for labor for the water pump and labor for the putting on the belt. There shouldn't be any labor on the belt as that has to come off before they put the water pump on. The belt should only be a part charge and no labor charge.

Unfortunately this is all too common with women going in for service

You were right. The noise is still there. I am going to scan the receipt tomorrow and show you. Can you tell me whether I've been robbed or the charge is in a reasonable range?

I would bring it back to the dealer and have them address the correct problem......without charge.

Your price for the service they performed, $770 plus additional 15% off, total $655 plus whatever shop fees is on the high side. Most dealers will charge around $500-$550 for what the service you did. But all dealers charge different prices, your dealer is definately on the high side.

But that's not the point, they didn't even address your concern, which was the 3 way valve problem making that noise. It's like going to the doctor for an eye infection and they treated you by giving you a flu shot.

Total charge was $632.54....Oil Change / Brake Pad / Water Pump...However, I am going to make them fix the noise issue which hasn't been fixed. They said it was caused by the water pump.

Ooooh, oil change, brakes pads and all........well then you got a deal (kinda since it's a dealer service). You didn't mention the brake service

Oops...sorry!!! Yes that was the total charge for those 3 services. I should still request noise issue to be resolved at no cost right? Unless there will be additional parts required for that to get fixed.

You would have to stand firm and insist that done at no charge (possibly give in to paying for parts), it's the problem you wanted resolved when you went to them. They didn't resolve the problem with their wrong diagnosis.
