    Hello folks!

Bought a used Prius 2010 last december, used as a taxi cab i Sweden.
Now the hybrid system is shut down and the assumption is that the hybrid battery is the culprit.
No codes has been read out of the system but the car has passed 330 000 km so I guess that's very plausible.
Have found a used battery from a 2009 prius who the local Toyota service facility says is compatible.
I guess I could do the replacement myself saving some $400?

    Any thoughts about that?

    Cheers! /Roger

In a USA model I don't think that would work.
    The US 2009 is a Gen2 and a 2010 is Gen3 with a slightly different battery design.
The individual modules (28 in Gen2 vs. 32 I think in a Gen3) may be tranferred Gen3 to Gen2 but vice versa is not as easy cuase you are missing some modules. But I don't know if EU has same batteries or model years. GrumpyCabbie can tell you.

    PS- Welcome!

Does the car start and still move? If not, it's probably not the battery.

There should be codes in the car if the hybrid system has failed. Just bring it somewhere (like the dealer) to get it diagnosed.

On a gen3, I would suspect the inverter to be the problem

Yes, the car is running without hybrid functionality.
I'm not sure my mec guy has the right kind of equipment to interperet the codes properly and the dealers i taked to just want me to make an appointment somewhere in the distant future, i don't want to wait for that.
I remember I saw a note somewhere about a PC-based HW suitable for Prius on this site?

Can I disable the error state somehow, the car has recharged the hybridbattery after the fail state appeared, that's why I believe it is the battery.
    /Roger

can you elaborate on how the car runs? The car needs hybrid functions to actually work

Well, U start the car as usual with he difference that the combustion engine always runs.
Most of the other funcitonality are there, the hybrid battery is charged as needed for support of 12V charging and the AC but not for the electric motor. The ordinary display pages showing hybrid performance is obscured by the "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" message but those pages can be momentarily displayed by, as usual pushing the "DISP" button.

Without codes, we're just shooting into the dark...

generally a sign of hybrid battery failure, but not definitive.

You need the codes read, it might not be a battery issue

I thought this could be inverter coolant overheat.

How do you know whether "hybrid functionality" is present or not?

You need Mini VCI if you want to DIY retrieve the diagnostic trouble codes. This runs on a Windows 7 or Windows XP, 32 bit OS laptop.

I agree that it is very premature to replace the traction battery without knowing the DTC. Your car could have other problems, for example the inverter or transaxle.

Some auto parts stores will read the codes for you...

    Codes read:
    P0571
    P0A0D
    P0A80

That means I need to do at least two things, first correct answer will be served a beer at a suitable Point In Time...

The brake switch is an easy fix. As for the hybrid battery codes - good luck.

    P0571: replace brake light switch
P0A0D: correctly install the orange traction battery interlock switch
P0A80: replace the traction battery, or at minimum the failed module(s) within

Correctly setting the interlock switch. However that will not last as the traction battery continues to deteriorate. I would not install used G2 modules into a G3 traction battery case.

I also thought it was a brake issue but when U read the code list I'm not so sure anymore.
The code P0571 is under the cruise control header and I do in fact have problem with that function but also with my brake pads...

Ok, now I discovered your links!
I guess there is an error in the list I gave a link to...

Well, I did remove the service plug when the system was down but the 12V battery was -not- disconnected.
I geuss that's why that code apperared?

I believe the battery pack is the same as in my G3 car, according to a Toyota dealer. I think he said that late Gen II-cars have the GEN III-batterypack?
Anyway the type code is the same.
This is a European car, maybe it's different in the US?
