My prius shows my average MPG is 48, but my full tank mileage estimate is only less than 300 miles. Is this normal to you guys? Also, I have hard time filling my gas because the pump keeps kick off a few second after I start fueling and I can see vapor coming out when the pump stops. I have to leave the pump loose to fill the gas. Can this be the problem? I do see the gas indicator is full after each filling but the mileage is still very low compare to my Ford fusion hybrid which goes to 600 miles.

How many gallons are you putting in each time? You should be getting at least 430 to 450 miles on a typical 10 gallon refill. The tank holds 11.9 gallons but the "empty gauge" and 0 range indications usually occur at 10.5 gallons gone. You might try another gas station and put it in at the slow speed.

Can't have any intelligent discussion about this without knowing how MUCH you put in the tank at each fill and what the actual calculated mileage really is.
How long have you had the car ??

If you fill up at DTE=0 you'll more than likely not be able to get 10 gallons of gas into an 11.8 gallon tank.

    Here's what I usually do.
Drive until you hear the beep indicating that you're low on fuel.
That usually means that you're at DTE minus 20 or so.

Drive about 50 more miles and then fuel when/where convenient.
You'll be able to put about 10 gallons into the tank.
Reset the trip odometer, observing both distance traveled and tank efficiency.
I'm usually at 500 miles and not only does it make for really easy math (which I need) but I can keep a real world efficiency value tank-to-tank.
You may need to alter the numbers slightly for the station wagon, and read your FOM to verify that your tank is 11.8 gallons.
    Done.

Pop the hood every other tank and check the oil, and with a little luck and some other maintenance items....you've got a 250,000 mile car

    Ignore the DTE value.

Some of us are rotating the pump nozzle 90-180 degrees (whereas 180 would be upside down) to try to let the tank fill-up more. I have not tried the 180 extreme but 90 seems easy. Believe it helps but not sure how much.

Thanks guys. I just got the car and didnt had a chance to fill it from empty to full. I use the tank indicator and it shows its full... Maybe next time I should try to empty it first.

I read this tread with puzzling reaction! I usually fill up my v tank when I have just less than 1/2 tank left and reset the trip (which is normally A).
And that's it :). Because if I cycle through the display, the range will be automatically adjusted. ;)

Me too. Don't give a dang about miles per tank, do want to be real sure I'm the one that fills up, since I'm tracking consumption.

I don't know how all you people get such great mpgs I always fill my tank and average around 350 miles per tank full I don't think I ever even made it to 400.
I'm doing over 95% city driving living in South Florida blazing hot here ac cranking always

I just traded up a 2010 level 3 for a 2013 level 4 so far it seems like the 2013 is doing even worse on the mpgs then the 2010 did
I'm on my second tank full and down to the last spike on the gas gauge just about to start beeping and only at like 310 miles the first tank didn't make it to 350

am i doing something wrong should i be checking my 12volt battery ?

It just seems to me that the amount of city driving you are doing and using the air conditioning all the time is the reason for your low mpg. I'm sure you will get other opinions.

Well just started blinking at 318 miles seems I'd get like 350 before with the 2010

is this normal or is there some possible fix for it ?

The difference is only 3 mpg, could just be your tires. Check pressure.

Also the wrong oil in the engine might cause that.

Many things can contribute. I'd say drive it for a while and then get a good average

Miles per tank doesn't help us much, because 'tank' means such greatly different things to different people. Please give use miles per gallon instead.

Also, please fill out as much of this questionnaire at practical, and post the answers here. Parts of it are already answered in your existing posts, but other parts are still unknown. These will give us more clues to help guide our feedback:
