I looked at this site trying to find the very issue stated. I was sure the 2004 prius we have locked on its own after it timed out. I thought the 2012 we just bought did the same until a friend came over tonight and had gone through it before she came in the house. "Your car is beautiful but you really should lock it." I was surprised. I thought all the new cars had that feature. Key in proximity won't let it lock but after no activity, they lockdown. .
Are you guys sure it isn't in the Toyota Diagnostic Trouble Code Retrieval: Prius Hybrid NHW11 1.5 NZ-FXE Fault Codes- OBDII type, where they can be changed?

No, and the Gen2 didn't have it either.

What both cars do is if you unlock them via the fob but then do not open the doors within some time (90 seconds?), then the doors will lock again.

When the tornadoes come, if they aren't locked it just rips open the doors and tears up the upholstery. <grin>
