OK DCJA I understand your case now! Yes clear case of CARB warranty. Nice catch.
By the way, $3000 is about the lowest dealer replace we've heard of, remind my batt to die there too (no CARB here)

Just wanted to clarify something-- would the CA extended hybrid warranty apply to a used Prius purchased in CA that was originally bought new in a different state? In other words, does the warranty depend on the state of origin of the car, or where the current owner lives and the car is registered? Thanks!

Toyota policy as we understand it: the car must be originally (first owner) purchased and registered in a CARB state, and same requirement at time of repair There could be exceptions, but Toyota reserves the right handle these on case by case basis, so if there are exceptions, we do not know them. There have been a few cases where for example AZ purchased cars were covered in CA, why I do not know, mistake or otherwise.

PS- If you have a specific case for review pls advise us the details for comments

Thanks for all this information about the hybrid battery because I had mine replaced in California almost a year ago for around $4000.00 and I was not aware of this warranty until I just read it. I am the original owner and I purchased my vehicle in California brand new. So, do I just contact Toyota? The dealership that replaced my battery is no longer in business.

The HV Battery warranty for California is 10years/150,000 miles from first use date (essentially the sale date of the first person who bought the car).
    1) When did you buy your 2005 Prius (Mo/Da/Yr)?

2a) What dates are on the invoice?
2b) First drop off date to get the codes read and problem diagnosed?
    2c) Vehicle pick-up date after paying $4k?

3a) Would the first drop off date and mileage be under 10years/150,000 miles, compared to the initial purchase date?
3b) If YES, call Toyota Customer Care and ask for a full refund and a little extra for a crappy authorized dealer experience who did not know what they were doing.
3c) If NO, still call Toyota Customer Care, and see if they will give you any refund.

No I think the title of this thread is wrong.
The CA CARB warranty is 10-years 150k miles.

However, I am sorry to say if you had checked in here, we would have told you how to negotiate with Toyota USA for lower cost replacement. I suppose you could still ask for a retroactive discount, but we've never tried that.
