Thanks for the update! As a fellow Florida driver I have first-hand experience with the heat issue. I'm still waiting for the dealer to call and let me know the replacement is in so I can schedule the replacement service.

We bought our 2015 prius V 4 a month ago. Had intermittant problems with the touchscreen freezing. First took in for a software update. Same problem. Then took in for a reboot. Same problem. Now waiting for a new system to come in for replacement. At least toyota is being responsive to us.

I test drove a 2015 Prius v 4 today and the A/V screen was unresponsive. Salesman claimed someone had done an incomplete "port inspection" but it sounds like this problem is far from solved. BTW, it was 85F and the car was pretty warm when I got in. Didn't buy it.

Is this issue of screen nonresponiveness limited to 2015 versions???

I leased a 2015 Prius v wagon and my screen becomes unresponsive to my touch. The controls on the steering wheel work still but nothing else on the screen works. I have to turn off the car and restart it to become responsive to my touch. I've only had it since 5/25/15 and less that 275 miles on it. I'm very annoyed atm.

If you read further back in this thread you'll find you can reboot the head unit just by pressing the radio on/off/volume button for a few seconds. You don't need to restart the car.

Take pictures, document, file report, wait in line, get replaced. Many have followed this sequence. A while back there was even posted in this thread an official Toyota reference the dealer could access to file with Toyota.

I test drove a second Prius v Four today. Before starting the engine (just on accessory) the touch screen worked fine. When I initially started the engine, the touch screen was also fine. Half a mile into a test drive the screen locked up. It restarted after shut down. Of note, the vehicle was manufactured in 12/2014. I wonder if there was a bad batch of screens.

We just purchased a v yesterday. On a test drive of a different model, the screen locked up, I figured I might have activated some passenger radio lockout. Powered off v, then on, issue gone.

Driving our new v, it did it on that car too. Each of the four buttons on each side worked, but the screen does not. It appears to be a rather common issue from our experience and this thread.

The family is coming from a 2002 honda odyssey that has had a few major transmission problems. This year and model are widely known to have transmission problems, so much so that even Edmunds did some research on the matter. honda NA never aided us in the repair, unlike that which they did for others who used lawyers to write letters to honda NA I later learned. We followed the every 30k mi transmission fluid change cycle, never towed (although we rented a ditcher once, likely less than 1000 pounds with trailer), live on a flat land state, yet still had issues.

I am kinda wondering if I should have gotten the ToyotaCare. With these electronic device failures, who else is getting the ext warranty? How much would a radio replacement cost after 36K miles warranty expiration?

Edit: Oops, dealer tried to sell me "Extra Care Platinum," a vehicle service agreement. That is the extended warranty repair service.

I have a new 2015 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) --- a little over a month old, with less than 3000 Km (1864miles) on the odometer and am experiencing freezing problems and other issues with the Navigation System much like other posters. The first few issues earlier on were dismissed by me as an "operator problem" but after a number of "freeze ups" and visits to this site, it became apparent the problem appears it is not with the operator but the system itself.

This past Thursday (May 28, 2015), I had the vehicle in to service the Nav system and they took some kind of reading and sent it to Toyota Canada. I was informed later in the day that the vehicle will have to be returned and left at the Toyota dealer for the entire day while they work on the problem. After talking to them I was returning home listening to the radio when there were a couple of "beeps", the radio shut off and a CD was puked out of my CD player. I re-inserted the CD and the CD started to play, however, I wanted to listen to the radio so when I pressed the App button, the screen froze up and it wasn't until I rebooted the system was I able to get the radio to function.

Today when I attempted to use the voice recognition Nav System, the pleasant lady at the other end was having a difficult time in locating an address in Langley British Columbia Canada but was offering me selections in Maine USA and other exotic (I'm sure) destinations. Some of my passengers were enjoying themselves at my expense (and Toyota's) because it appeared any simple command returned an idiotic response and she was bound and determined to plot a course back to our house rather than the destination I was attempting to reach. Some unkindly passenger's suggestions were perhaps the lady was somewhat retar... make that "challenged" and when it came time to put the address in manually, well guess what? --- the screen froze again.

On the return trip, voice attempts to navigate to "Home" was another exercise in futility as the voice directions were queried with offers to phone people, go to previous addresses or other adventures --- really, she was having a tough day... oh! --- and another session of freezing me out too.

In my other vehicle I have a relatively inexpensive Garmin GPS with voice recognition, Bluetooth phone connection, is easy to program, enter addresses, notifies you of traffic delays -- more bells and whistles than the Toyota Nav System with less headaches. And for the record, I have a total of 5 other GPS units - one in the aforementioned vehicle, one on my motorcycle and three in my aircraft and consider myself fairly proficient and adept in operating all of them.

I have provided the Service personnel with links to the u tube videos of the problem along with information from this site. It will be interesting to see what develops. A the moment I am not too impressed with Toyota's questionable Nav System but am prepared to work with them for a time, as suggested by another poster, to come up with a satisfactory solution.

I've tried that. Doesn't work. I brought the car in for a "software update" and that didn't work.

Man, things are getting weirder and weirder. Now my volume goes down when I accelerate a.d when I brake it goes up. Wth. Sometimes when I turn left it goes down and goes up when I turn right. Even the AC seems to ha e a mind of its own. High then low and then high again. I'm getting more and more frustrated just typing this out.

I brought mine in for a software update and that didn't work. I hope toyota gets this fixed and soon.

I'm happy a friend found this chat group for me; I feel validated. It was suggested to me that the screen freezings were due to a "too old phone" (vs. IPhone!), and "not understanding new technology"... My screens freeze up more often than not, and when they do, nothing fixes it until after the car has been parked for a while and then restarted. The dealer I purchased the car from on 5-11-15 was stumped, another Toyota dealer service manager stated it "just needed an update" - but I've since seen in these chats that that didn't work. My next appt. is 6/5/15. Shouldn't all dealers be aware of this problem by now?

A little reading of this thread will go a long way towards a solution. This is a repost part of a note I submitted to this thread on May 9th with a post fix update.

A TSB (T-TT-0336-15) was issued for the 2015 Prius v screen freeze issue on April 24th. Evidently they have found that it occurs in high temps as well as low temps. No specific threshold was mentioned in the TSB. The solution is to replace the unit. ** June 4th update - The unit was replaced under warranty on 5/29 and has performed flawlessly for the past six days. It took two weeks for the part to get to the dealer as it came from California, I live in Florida.**

I found that there were two steps that significantly helped me when working with the dealer. 1) as an earlier poster suggested, I pulled over when it froze and took a video of the frozen screen demonstrating the problem. 2) I worked cooperatively with the service department suggesting that they leave the car out in the sun for a couple of hours on a hot day and then do a test.

I've been very impressed with the local dealer. The first time in they could not replicate the problem. I suspect it was due to the relatively cool conditions in the service bay. When I brought it in the second time and showed the video (just prior to the TSB being issued) they did a firmware upgrade, but that did not fix the problem. They scheduled me for a tech review and provided a rental car. They let it sit in the sun for two hours on a hot day and sure enough it failed. They opened a tech case with Toyota, got the TSB that directed them to replace the unit.

I live on the East coast, and unfortunately, the replacement unit has been delayed again (now at 3 weeks and counting) until at least next week with the dealer allowing for a potential open-ended date for receipt of the part and replacement. I filed a compliant with the BBB primarily because our local dealer is wiping their hands of the matter and saying we have to deal directly with Toyota corporate on product issues. Until then, they continue to sell cars potentially having the same issue. I just wonder if they are disclosing that fact to potential buyers. They sure were happy enough to accept our cash. Sad, because we want to buy another new Toyota car, and we'll now have to go out of our way to another dealership to buy it.

Without a doubt, dealers know about this problem by now!

You have spoken to the Customer Relations Manager? Every dealer is supposed to have someone with this title. His job is to be your advocate and interface to Toyota. If he isn't, then Toyota should know about it and they will deal with the folks that own the dealership. He is one step up from the service manager. I found being polite, factual, unemotional etc had the service manager doing everything he could to satisfy me. He wants high marks in customer satisfaction, his bonus depends on it.

Having said that, Toyota doesn't make the units, many many '15 Toyota cars are reporting the freeze, it is a hardware issue, Toyota is unable to get enough parts fast enough. TSB (T-TT-0336-15) covers this issue and all they can do is get you on the list for a replacement. Not pleasant, just reality. The good news is the replacement units don't seem to have the problem.

I have a new Prius v wagon with the hi-tech package and have the same panel frozen problem at the time of the delivery. Took it to two dealers and they cannot get a replacement unit from Toyota. Yes, they can duplicate the problem easily. I am planning to file a lemon law claim to get my money back. Any one have done that with success? I just finished a Prius 2 lease and then bought this Prius v. I think it is a mistake. Very unusual that a dealer cannot fix a problem.
