Rumor is the 4th will have an optional all wheel drive up to about 35 mph. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to buy my 2014 when the lease is up in 2017 or get a new leased Prius. At the end of my lease they want $15,0000 to buy it.

i suppose it will be better than non hybrid, but after the hyhy, i'm not sure it will be worth it.

For the love of Pete, WHY would you want a Prius in AWD? Toyota is already putting the hybrid systems in other platforms...it'd be smarter just to buy a dedicated AWD and opt for the hybrid model.

The short answer for me is that I want a wimpie AWD in a strong hybrid rather than the reverse.

Winter driving where I live in New Jersey winter is pretty horrible with snow and ice.And to be honest the Prius isn't that great in the snow.I purchased snow tires they do help but the car is so light in the nice person it fish tails in snow.Next winter it's going to be two 100 pound sand bags in the back

Take a look at the mpg numbers between the Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid and the HiHy. There isn't much of a penalty on the HiHy over the XVCh given that the HiHy is considerably heavier and can seat 7. That's the benefit of a full hybrid over a mild hybrid.

Mostly probably. Our 2014 is not a year old yet and we'll have over 25,000 miles on it before it is. I'm not concerned about the mileage, but I want to try to keep up with technology. I won't trade in 2016, but maybe 2017 depending on what they have to offer. Since we live in Phoenix and don't drive in snow, I see no need for AWD. Unfortunately, Toyota has a bad habit of offering stuff like that in a package that has other things I might want, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I am planning on getting the gen 4 as soon as it comes out. I am almost at 200,000 miles on my 2010 and it is going to my son as soon as I get a new one.

Snow and ice. A prius with AWD and still gets 50 mpg. I don't know of another car that will do that.

Depends on what the Gen IV "actually" turns out be.

Assuming one with the AWD option will still get 50 mpg. :)

I'm actually hoping for auto-folding side mirrors, power adjustable passenger seat, memory driver's seat, more travel on the telescoping steering wheel, stronger satellite antenna and enhanced navigation with cheaper and more frequent USB-based map/POI updates.

Agree, depends on what it has and what it looks like. AWD would be good on our winters and great if it could incorporate 4 wheel regen braking.
IF it has the angry street punk grill Toyota has so fallen in love with, I may pass for that reason alone. That look has been on the German cars for 20 years and I have always hated it.

Probably not...Actually, I know I won't be trading it in.

Cause I'll be waiting to see what the Gen 2 PiP brings. Then I'll compare btwn the Gen 4 vs. PiP and see which is worth upgrading.

I'm considering trading in my RAV4 and my Prius for the new Hybrid RAV4.

The rest of the world are enjoying these 4x4 vehicles and the Outlander is the European best selling low emission vehicle. i think Toyota are very much aware of what the competition are offering and belatedly trying to catch up.

Two are plug in's so I guess they vary and the diesel hybrid matches the Prius consumption under the EU test so will presumably match it under the US test.

    They're all 4wd.
