I just had my dash light up with the red triangle check engine vsc and amber circle with a ! in the middle. Also the display has the red car with the ! in the middle. I took the car to the dealer to read the codes and got a P0A80 and a P1121. After getting some great ideas from other prius owners on this site I decided to test the cells on the HV battery myself. After testing each cell 3 times they all are in range ( 8 - 7.8 ). Is there something other than a bad battery causing the P0A80 code to pop up if the individual cells test fine?

    Tracy,

No, POA80 is a battery code (P1121 indicates that the coolant control valve that controls flow into the thermos is stuck - add coolant to see if it clears). You need to load test each module to determine that the voltage drops are all the same under load. Use both filaments of a halogen headlamp as a load while measuring the voltage at the module terminals with a digital voltmeter.

According to one battery expert on this site, there is a slight chance that a clogged cooling fan for the battery can cause the POA80 code to get thrown.

POA80 code indicates a battery fault, but there should be other codes to give an indication of where that fault is, and what the problem is.

The only other code given was the coolant valve code.

That is a great idea checking the fan. Probably should of done that before putting everything back together. There was a lot of dog hair all over the modules but I didn't think to check the fan.

My advice would be to buy a Mini VCI (Ebay) and check the codes for yourself. This will be much cheaper and more informative than going to the dealers. The other codes will tel you if the problem is a module block low voltage and which one, a ground leak, or an overheating problem to mention a few.
The dealer will be more than happy to take 3000+$ off you possibly for no good reason.

In the UK I have a disc supplied with the VCI version 7.20.037 scanned with AVG & McAfee. Both report no virus found. There are many sources on the net, and it is easy to run a scan to remove any threat. I however use an ancient IBM laptop for car work that never connects to the web so there is no problem anyway.

I used mini-vci cable for at least 5 years, never heard about viruses, when i started using it then the latest techstream version was 4 or 5, now it's already v10, and the techstream it's a official toyota software it cannot have a viruses.

I got mine off amazon two weeks ago and after installing AVG found 4 viruses, it removed them (I guess) but ever since my video flickers at start up.I removed it from the computer but the flickering continues. its version 10. something...when I contacted the seller his reply was turn off the anti virus and re install the software..i put it on an old laptop I don't care about...its a counterfeit version of X Horse, mine can not be registered or updated...

Yeah exactly same cable i have, it's a clone of original X Horse cable and later that company stopped supporting those cables, the driver normally installs only on Windows XP i think on other systems need to do a manual install, mine came with a 1.4.4 driver version, also i have found 2.0.1 but did not noticed any difference.

It may also can be false virus warning, i scanned on virustotal.com the installer of driver, and it shows that 7/57 anti-viruses software found that it have virus here a link:
    https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/4356b83fa503788e13e64389eba3e2b7a1dd4fc5f30caaaf17d288887e0ea15c/analysis/

I remember that happening sometimes on other applications too, some anti-viruses see the cracks of software's like a viruses, i used the mini-vci for years on a normal computer that i using everyday and never has problems, so i think peoples should not worry about that.
