With that bald hint -- how about a poor connection to the positive terminal of the 12v ? Not the cable itself, but the interlock.

I'm presuming that no DTCs were thrown ?

 

DC-DC converter would power everything. We need somewhere else for the electrons to go.

 

I was just vaguely remembering the piece underneath the red cover on top of the 12v. I thought it was a safety feature, but from the standpoint of someone putting in a new 12v it is a plug that should go 'click.' My guess is that it is not secure and it wobbles enough when the car hits a pothole to lose continuity.

Next guess: the 12v circuit gets shorted by something tapping it during the car 'bump.'
