I didn't know the DMV cared about cellphone sales tax. :)

A tax on miles driven pits the gas guzzler crowd against the sippers. So the geniuses in Sacramento will obviously tax both gas consumption AND miles driven. Makes perfect sense, right?

Also, I think the green stickers may be a piece of history after this go-around that'll bring the total # to 85,000. White makes sense to keep as they are for zero emission vehicles - but their shelf life is as limited as the greens (1/1/2019). I'm happy to have a green sticker, but I think I'm just lucky. Other cars get equal or better mileage to mine but because they're not TZEVs they don't get a green sticker …

Yes, this is what the dealer told me when I purchased my "pre-owned" 2012 PIP last week. You are exempt for the first 6 years and then after that every two years for a smog check. His opinion was that this new requirement was promoted by the smog check association lobby, not necessarily by and for the State to generate more revenue. I don't know, I'm just reporting what he told me.

In other words, to increase the revenue to the legislators' campaign coffers, rather than the state's.

That's why it is important to financially support the political candidate of your choice rather than let lobbyists usurp the electoral process. But we are getting way off topic here and I'm going to return to PIP chat.
