Another new Prius v owner chiming in. We picked up our 2015 v 4 six days ago. We took our first long drive today and the screen started acting up 30 minutes in. Captured video on the cell phone and emailed my sales guy. We'll see how the response goes. I told him the first thing we want to avoid is bringing the car in only to be told that they can't reproduce the problem. Keeping my fingers crossed for a painless experience.

My new Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) 4 experienced the same issues than quit completely 2 weeks ago. Shop said a new head unit is required was originally told 2-3 weeks, now August sometime.

Think what this does to Toyota's initial quality rankings in the J D Powers survey!

I've been reading the posts about the radio freezing up. It happened to me 2 days in a row. I have a 2015 Prius v which I purchased on May 20 of this year. The radio was working and the tuner was working but the apps and presets didn't respond to my touch. I pulled aside turned the car off and on again - it worked. The one constant thing during the past 2 days was my hour commute @4pm in about 85 degree weather. I took a video and will show it to the local service dealer.

Could a poll be put on this thread, or a thread started with poll?

Seems an alarming high number, but would be interesting to see poll results. If it's a rout, Toyota better wake up.

    Hi
I have exactly the same problem.
I was wondering has anyone had their unit replaced and if the problem was resolved after replacement.

I just purchased a new Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) ackage 5 and I am having the same issue. It is as though the system falls asleep and becomes unresponsive. Ise a Motorola Turbo so I know the iPhone is not an issue. Has anyone had any luck once the head is fixed/replaced? The car has less than 300 miles on it.

I received my replacement unit on May 29th. It has performed flawlessly every since. I live in Florida; the highs each day are in the upper 80's to low 90's. The heat issue appears to be resolved with the replacement unit.

Just a tip for those who are new to the forum. Please read through the prior posts in a thread before submitting. Often an answer is in there. Here's a link to an earlier post that has a lot of the key info summarized.

^ I'm curious: you're able to make a link to a specific post on a page?

Good to hear the replacements are working, btw.

Yes. You click on the number in the lower right of a specific post and it brings up a link specific to that post. Your post number above is #155.

As stated several times in this topic, you do not have to do this. Just hold down the volume button for about 3 seconds and the touch screen system will reboot and will work again.

Further to my previous postings and last post June 12, 2015, I received word the new Nav System for my Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) has been shipped to the dealer and will be installed Wednesday instead of having to wait for sometime in August.

It will be interesting to see if this is new unit (maybe, according to the TSB, a remanufactured head unit) will completely fix the problem of "freezing" especially during the hot weather we've been experiencing --- like yesterday and sure enough the unit "froze up" again.

Thanks also to Psikic for posting the TSB/TTT. I'll download a copy for the service people since I was told was it wasn't available in Canada ---

    Thanks for your post.

I also have a Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) and have had the problem since I bought the car in February. I described the problem at my 1000 mile checkup with no resolution, and now I am approaching my 5000 mile checkup.

Do you mind telling me which dealer you are using?

I bought my car at the Gladstone Toyota dealership (Costco referral program). I am trying to determine which local service shop to use for maintenance. My best two options are:
    • Beaverton Toyota (closest to home)
    • Royal Moore Toyota (closest to work)
Knowing which one is working the issue might help me make my decision.

Dropped mine off at the dealership Saturday morning. Gave them a printed copy of the TSB and the TT. Also had a piece of paper with a link to my Youtube video showing the problem happening. They kept it all day and was able to reproduce the problem in the afternoon after leaving it out in the sun all day at my request. They said they have to contact Toyota before being able to proceed but that would have to wait until Monday because they are not open on the weekend. I was sent home with a loaner car. I hope to hear back today that I can trade my loaner car back for my Prius v while I wait on a new head unit to solve the issue. But we'll see. I think they still are inclined to try a software update first. If they insist upon that, I'll insist I keep the loaner car while they do the testing to see if the software update fixed it (which it won't).

Thank you Psikic for posting the Technical Bulletin.

I am using Twitter to communicate with Toyota USA on this issue as well: @toyota #PriusTouchScreenFreeze.

Hopefully this will be resolved - but I would like Toyota to inform owners proactively to avoid brand tarnishing and negative user experiences.

So thankful for this message board. Bought our first Prius Friday night (6/26/15) and got a 2015 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) 4. On Saturday, the touchscreen stopped working. Figured it was user error until I couldn't find anything in the manual. Then I found this board! Yesterday, I went back to the dealer - armed with the TSB number, my video of the problem, and this board. They hassled me a bit; blamed my cell provider even, at one point. Couldn't replicate the problem, but thanks to you all, I knew to insist that they keep the car out in the hot sun. I know they were annoyed with me, but roughly four hours later, I was vindicated. Problem replicated in the hot sun. Head unit is on order and I am back in my beautiful little car until it comes in!

    Great to hear Kristina!

My dealership did not fix problem at 5k service due to not being able to reproduce problem (San Francisco does not get hot enough some days). I did not have the TSB or enough ammo to properly push.

Toyota customer care called (in response to email I sent to them) today. They are assigning a case manager to facilitate issue.

    Fingers crossed!

Just an update... my car has been at the dealership since Saturday 6/27. They gave me a loaner and said they will call me back today, but I have yet to hear from them. They said they were going to be ordering the part from Toyota but they had no idea when it would be in yet. They want me to keep the loaner until the part comes in, but I have a feeling that will be a while. I sure do hate driving that little Corolla they gave me and would rather be in my v.
