    Hey guys

I'm from Australia. My car is a 2009 ZVW30R Prius. It's currently on 83700km . I brought it to the mechanic last week , he changed the oil, air and fuel filter. However , these couple of days, the malfunction indicator light is on.

But the light comes on in yellow without the word CHECK. I took it to the mechanic again, he says he must have put in the wrong type of toyota fuel filter. Do any one know much about fuel filter for 2009 ZVW30R Prius ? Does it need to be replaced?

welcome to priuschat! there's no reason to change the fuel filter unless you're having problems. have someone with a toyota scanner read the trouble codes. all the best.(y)

^ I think you're right. Unfortunately the Aussie maintenance schedule calls for replacement. Wonder why: iffy gas?

I'd be inclined to not do it, anyway. It's nuts to pull the car half apart and replace an expensive, more-n-likely perfect condition component.

I noticed it in the Aussie 5 year 100,000km service too. When is it recommended in the Canadian/American versions?

nothing in usa, i guess you just wait until it craps out.(n) but you read very little here about clogged fuel filters.

Maybe if you buy from a station with a rusty tank, but that problem's rarer than it used to be.

The original filter in my Mazda clogged at about 260K miles. Its replacement went farther than that without ever clogging.

When I was small, my family's trip to my great-grandfather's funeral was interrupted by our car starting to cough and sputter badly. It sputtered into a service station (Remember those?!), where the mechanic diagnosed a plugged fuel line and managed to blow an unfortunate insect out of the plumbing. Back then, cars had no fuel filter, although some had a glass "sediment bulb" in which stray rust or dirt particles were supposed to settle en route to the carburetor.
