raise the gas tax?

 

It is either raise the tax(on gas or crude), or spend on incentives.
We know both can help hybrid and alt fuel sales.
The likely hood of Congress doing either is very slim.

 

agreed, it's unfortunate. it's more likely that some states will continue looking for more revenue from alt fuel vehicles.

 

The best chance for that was during the lame duck session last year. While there is some movement in the senate, it looks like a dead issue in the house. Without the president or the house pushing this, it looks like it is unlikely to be taken up. Hell they can't even do tax refrom which is popular in the country and would be able to kill the oil subsidies.

Even if there was a increased tax, it would not likely be big enough or used to offset other taxes, two keys to actually being a popular program to reduce oil use.
