the starting procedure of the push start C with a dead key fob battery is the same as the regular prius and i think most cars who have push start. you hold the fob near the start button

2004 prius the 12V battery lasted 10 years (replaced last summer) car sat for up to a week without driving 200,000 miles. Remember if it won't power up it could be the 12V battery. The owners manual will tell you how to jump start.

I remember when I first looked at the car at the dealership they couldn't open the trunk, because the 12V battery had discharged. Now I realize it must have sat on the lot for longer that I thought, hence the neat discount.

The car's manufacture date is on a placard in the drivers door, can be a bit of an eye opener.

FWIW, when we bought ours new the 12 volt was completely dead. When we came in for a test drive, they thoughtfully had the car running for us.

It all fell apart when we went out after, to check on something, tried to start it up again.

by 12V are you folks referring to the "accessory" battery that's in the trunk of the gen 2? I don't know where they're placed in the c (just got mine a couple days ago) but I believe it also has posts up in the front for jump starting even if the battery's in back like it is in the gen2. my accessory battery died when it was just a few years old but I read somewhere here that low mileage combined with regular accessory use would explain that. ever since, I don't travel with jumper cables but a $30 portable jump starter battery. I've probably used it with other people's cars more since its purchase but it's a lot more handy than maneuvering your cars close together -- especially in inclement weather conditions.

The 12V battery on the prius c is located under the rear seat on the passenger side.

June 18. Another Update. Happened again, no keys in ignition!...but had not used car in a week since last low battery problem.
This time 12V battery was too low to start the Prius C.
Am charging it at 2 amps now, will leave overnight Try again in morning.
The 12V only read 4 volts.
Does anybody know if Toyota is replacing batteries free if still within the 2 year New Car Warranty ?

Really...........? not any cars I have owned

Zakky This thread pertains to the Prius C only. It's best if we keep the correct model on the correct thread. What pertains to a C, does not necessarily pertain to Gen 3 or Gen 2,, etc.

Does anybody know the Electrical specifics on the Prius C. 12V ?

I can go to Battery Shop and get the specs, or pull the battery.

Not sure what the heck I was talking about, myself. Maybe that the 12 volt voltage will drop off some, if the car's sat for 2~3 days?

It's really strange, I have now had maybe 5-7 no starts because of a low battery. After charging the car seems OK. I measured the voltage and it was about 12.7 V On the previous Prii, 2001 to 2005, excluding Gen 3, when a 12v battery problem occurred, that was it, most of the time a new battery was required. I measured the Voltage when the car would not start, also no dash lights.....it was 4 Volts. After recharging, battery was seemingly good again. I said some time ago the Prius C 12 V is different.. Battery is proprietary and no info can be gained from the Battery store. ???

Go to New Cars, Trucks, SUVs & Hybrids | Toyota Official Site. At the top click on owner then type in the info. Whatever the cause, after a battery has discharged that many times you need a new one.

OK, then he can get at the battery without removing the rear seat, just need to pull the trim panel in the rear foot well on the passenger side. It's held on with push and pop plastic fasteners - push in the center pin then pull out the fastener. No need to break the fasteners!

To re-install the panel, pull out the pin until it stops, push in the fastener, push in the pin till it's flush.

I did all this before, it's a PIA., TRY IT YOURSELF. Access from above would be much easier. Please, PLEASE, do not use information from another Prius model. To say point blank that I need another battery is highly fictitious and probably not based on personal experience.. I take advice from anybody who has actually done the work. Anything else is rumor, fiction, personal thoughts and BS. Don't waste anybody's time with what you think, you waste all PCs time. A excellent example of a productive PC member is Patrick Wong. Follow and LISTEN.

Have you done this yourself? Did you then take the Battery out, and inspect it, put a multimeter on it, separately charge the battery on a bench.? I DID.

    TY

    TY TOO

    TY, I DID THAT.................."..a PIA
